Pretty smooth graphics for a game about blocks

I like legos. I hope to someday have an entire lego city in the attic, much like the small town in the attic in Beetlejuice (except made of legos, of course).
Because I like legos so much, I was quick to buy this game. I ran home with it, expecting what would essntially be a Mario Kart or Chocobo Racing, sort of game. I knew one thing would be different-- I could build my car.
Well, I should've known better. When I started building my car, the same old issues arrived from the old days of real legos. There just weren't enough pieces, and I couldn't put some of the pieces on the way I wanted them to go.
The gameplay itself is decent. It is indeed similar to Mario Kart and Chocobo racing. Unfortunately, it just doesn't compare. Special items can be acquired on the track which help gain advantage in the race, and there are shortcuts on the tracks-- both qualities of this type of game. However, neither of these are exercised in such a way that adds any freshness.
The cars themselves differ only in appearance. Acceleration and top speed are the same for every car, leaving no challenge in the way of balancing auto qualities. Actually, you don't even have to build a complete car-- a driver and a chassis, and you're good to go.
The most fun part of the game was the building of the driver and car, but if I wanted to do that, I would buy a lego set, right? Maybe...
