Great Idea but needs some work!
Date of Review: Sep 7, 2002
The Bottom Line: Produce is below average as liners don't cover diaper well, can clog toilets, not very soft and don't wash well. Good in a pinch.
I am an avid cloth diaper user but would probably not be so if it were not for disposable diaper liners. These are a GREAT idea and if you use cloth diapers they ELIMINATE having to clean poop off of diapers. I think this is the biggest drawback to cloth and what prevents many people from using them.
I bought the Kushies Flushable/Biodegradable Diaper Liners when my usual brand were not available. For those of you who are unfamiliar with using these, they are a single sheet of thin paper (same concept as paper towel) which lies on top of the diaper next to baby's skin. They allow wet to pass through to the diaper keeping baby drier. However, any poop stays on the liner allowing you to easily flush liner and poop into the toilet. The diaper stays clean! If the liner is only wet it can be washed with the diapers and re-used.
The Kushies liners come in a roll like toilet paper. They are perforated so are easily taken from the roll. They are fairly thick - much like paper towel and so are durable and do not fall apart when wet. They are also heavy enough to hold anything which comes their way.
I was a bit disappointed with Kushies as they were not as wide as my regular brand of diaper liner and so often any soft bowel movements would creep off of the liner and end up on the diaper. This of course, would then require me to clean the diaper... something I was trying to avoid with the use of the liner.
The liner was also not very soft and although I did not notice any chaffing of my baby's skin, I thought that Kushies could improve this aspect of their product. Along with the lack of softness, the liner was fairly thick and I was a bit concerned about flushing it down the toilet. It was a bit like flushing paper towel down a toilet. A local baby store in our area sold this product and in speaking with the sales clerk she told me they were discontinuing the product as several people had complained about plugged toilets as a result of flushing them. I did not experience this problem but only used the Kooshies for a short period of time.
Finally, although the product does not say they are reusable, my other brand can be washed about 3 times before having to be thrown out. When I attempted to wash the Kushies they shrunk so much that they were useless.
I highly recommend the use of disposable diaper liners if you are using cloth diapers. In a pinch, I would use Kushies but they are not my product of choice.
