Great Little Tuner
Date of Review: Apr 30, 2008
The Bottom Line: If you are a student, or teacher, and in need of an accurate tuner at an affordable price, then buy this one.
I have been playing the violin for many years, and while this may not be the top of the line tuner, it is perfect for most musicians.
Features:
This tuner is multi-purpose, and comes with many features. There are many different types of tuners on the market, all with the same general goal in mind, but differently equipped to help you tune your instrument. This particular tuner uses a built in Mic to pick up the pitch played, and display that pitch on its screen. It also has red and green lights on either side to alert you if you're too high or too low.
Some other very nice features are its ability to play a chromatic C scale, as well as an A and a B flat- 12 notes in all. It can be calibrated to pick up notes anywhere between 410 to 480 Hz, and the note scales also change accordingly. It has an input jack for directly tuning instruments such as guitar. Battery life is claimed at 100 hours of continuous use, which seems accurate. In the several years I've owned this tuner, I haven't ever changed the batteries. It also has a twenty minute auto-shut off function, which is nice.
Negative Aspects:
For my use, this tuner is ideal. The only negative aspect would possibly be that oftentimes this tuner is "too good", or it has a certain pitch in mind that is practically unfindable...which is, actually, a good thing. Other, pickier musicians will doubtless find faults with this tuner, but it meets all my requirements, and does a great job.
Conclusion:
If you are looking for a reasonably priced mic tuner; you cannot go wrong with this one. Its multi-purpose versatility, and ability to tune most all wind, string, and keyboard instruments makes it a valuable asset to any musician.
