About Me
To me, DDR is one of the, if not the best series game out there. Its a game that actually involves getting physical, as well as a lot of skill. This is my favorite out of the whole series of DDR games, this is Dance Dance Revolution Extreme 2! I like this game because it involves a workout, and while youre doing it, your having a lot of fun at the same time. Also, the skill thats involved in this game makes it very fun on multiplayer. My sister and I play this game a lot, we both got $250 metal and plastic dance mats to play on, and we have a good time competing. It took a long time to get to playing heavy, but now Im able to play every song on this game, in any setting, and its a lot of fun for me.
Rating
This game is rated Everyone. That is really no surprise to anyone most likely because this game doesnt involve drug use, violence, anything of the sort. This game fully revolves around music and dancing. This game does have a few swear words, but nothing major, it wasnt even enough to take this game up to a Teen rating, which is not hard to happen to a game anymore. ESRB has only 2 warnings for the game, that is mild lyrics, and suggestive themes. From someone that plays this game a lot, you dont even notice the swear words in the game. I dont think Ive ever seen anybody notice them. If you want to know the truth, I didnt know about the language or suggestive themes until I looked on the back of the case right now.
Platforms
This game is mainly known for the Playstation 2, which is the only one most people buy, and is the one I have bought. The other one, richer people buy, and the arcades buy. The game is not for any other platform. The arcade version is not meant for use outside of Japan but, us Americans have to bring it here for our entertainment anyways. Both versions of the game are very close to being the same, except for the arcade platform having more songs, due to it being the Japanese version, it has the American and Japanese music.
Popularity
This game, including all of the other DDR games, are very popular. The most popular set up for this is a Playstation 2 using the $30 plastic roll-up mat. The roll-up mat is nice for storage but when it comes to playing the game, it is more of a pain than anything. It doesnt stay still when playing fast, buttons tend to mess up, easy wire shortages. In my opinion, if youre going to get into this game, you will want to buy a good set-up and that way you wont have any disadvantages. You will be able to play to your best and, if you arent good, there will be no easy excuses to get out of it, like you use when playing with friends so you dont look so bad.
Price
This game is a regular price of $50 plus tax at any Walmart, Target, etc. This game is definitely worth the money, if you get into these games. Many people enjoy this game even if they are not actually that good at it, they just enjoy playing it, like I do, even though I am pretty good at the game. Unfortunately with the new Guitar Hero outburst from Harmonix, many people dont get into DDR anymore and its sad because this game used to be very popular, and still is, but Guitar Hero has taken a lot from it.
Point of This Madness
Weather you are playing single or multiplayer, you do the same thing. There are a few separate modes like endless where you go until you end up losing, or regular mode where you do song by song, and master mode, just like any career mode in games, you go through to unlock music and get to the end of the game, also to unlock stuff from the store such as characters, songs, etc. In any mode, you will see arrows coming up the screen, the point of it is to hit the button corresponding to that arrow as it goes into the outline of it at the top of the screen. The buttons used in this game, to dance, are left, up, right, and down. You are able to change the options to use 6 if you would like, but that is just the default. Theres also 4 different difficulties to choose from. Beginner, light, standard, and heavy. Like every game, the harder you choose, the harder the game is, the faster you have to move, and the more eye coordination you will need.
Eyetoy
Yes, this game can use the eyetoy to play, give you extra arrows, and make the game more interactive. If you choose to use the eyetoy to play, you will need to set it up, flat, so it can see you, and when you see an arrow come up for the eyetoy to use, you have to use your hands by throwing them in that direction. Using the eyetoy does give you more of a work out and makes the game a bit harder, but I still stick to the original game and play it as it is, with the 4 buttons, and a dance mat.
Music
I am by far, not going to name all of the songs on this game. There are over 70 songs in all, and over 100 minutes of dancing. Some of the more popular music is, in my opinion, an annoying song, Oops!...I Did It Again, Genie In A Bottle, Crazy In Love, Play That Funky Music, and almost 70 more. This game has a large selection of music, and it is actually fun, good sounding, easy to dance to music. I dont think you will be against the music on here too much, even if you a mosh-head and dont get into this type of music. The game is fun to play and people usually dont get turned off from it by the choice of music.
Games Like This
A few games like this would be Pump It Up, and others like that, Guitar Hero is pretty much a copy of this game, just using a guitar instead of a dance mat. Also, as I said before, there is a series of DDR games. A few of them would include:
- DDRMAX
- DDRMAX2
- DDR Extreme
- Karaoke Revolution Party
That is just to mention a few of the games involved in the DDR series from Konami. As you may have noticed, Karaoke Revolution Party isnt a dancing game, showing that Konami puts into all games that involve music, instead of just dancing, to reach out to more people, and get a lot more sales.
Is This For You
If you have never tried this game, I would recommend before you buy it that you go to an arcade, and try it out for a dollar before you go, spend you money on it, and not be into it. But as far as my experience goes, I havent met too many people that dont like it, even if they wont play it in front of people because of them being embarrassed that they arent that great at the game. It is a really fun game and Im pretty sure, if you get into games that you got to move to play, you should like this. Also, if you like games like Guitar Hero, you should give this a try, it is much like that but you dance, it adds a whole new challenge to your life. This game is actually very fun, and by far one of my favorite games to ever play. Even though I own it, every time I go to the arcade, I play it, and as well as every time I go to the arcade, I have people surrounding me watching in amazement that someone can do this. It is a fun way to show off that people enjoy watching, I think everyone should give it a try atleast.
