KODAK 5500 AIO IS A PIECE OF JUNK!!
Date of Review: Mar 31, 2008
The Bottom Line: DON'T BUY IT!!
I made the mistake of purchasing TWO of these machines for my home office, and they have both had the identical problems....the auto-feed scanner function doesn't scan more than one page (the others scan as blank white pages), the paper jams constantly and faxes transmit in very poor, often illegible, quality. The cheap ink is in fact cheap, but you'll be using at least twice as many cartridges than you would with other brands even with just regular black and white text printing....this claim is, in my opinion, totally false. The printing function is decent, but very slow unless the machine is set to "draft" mode, in which I got very light, hard to read text. I have spent hours on the phone with Kodak's INDIA customer service folks, who sent me a replacement machine....with the identical problems! My claim was "escalated" to a "level 2" the last time I called, which apparently gives me the honor of being transferred to Kodak's american customer service dept....only problem is that after over an hour of being on hold waiting for someone to answer, no luck....TWICE!! Kodak has refused, even after replacing one machine with another dud, to refund my money. Best Buy, where I purchased it, refuses to get involved since it's "under manufacturers warranty". I rely on this machine for my home business and can't work without it. Thanks a bunch Kodak, for completely wasting my time and money. In dire need of a WORKING all in one, I just purchased my very first Lexmark for a very reasonable price....it uses way less ink and all of the functions work flawlessly....DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE KODAK!!
