Cheap Ink, yes. But a primitive printer. Really, should be avoided

Date of Review: Oct 15, 2007

The Bottom Line:  Avoid this primitive printer
If you are a Mac user, forget about it. The poor set up instructions fail to tell you that you must go on line to down load the divers. Enclosed software CD for PC only! I found this out only after calling customer support (minimal support as they don't know much about Apple/Macs..I was told that " PCs are more popular "), which is located in El Salvador (about those lay-offs in the New York State?). They told me the icon would be on the desk top, but I found it buried in utilities.

The set up menu is confusing at best. There appears to be no user interface with the computer. It does not have its own pull down menu, you must use the function buttons on the printer itself. The scanner function is about 10 generations behind the current technology. I was put on a VERY LONG hold (I finally hung up) when I asked if I could operate functions from the computer (guess I forgot that PCs are more popular).

Prints are not as good as with my Epsom RX580, and it is a lot more trouble to use with less options.

Best of all, it is a noisy sucker. The grinding is enough to wake the dead.

When Kodak can get this thing up to today's technology (at least as good as the Epsom RX580), then it might be worth getting. At the present the 5300 is nothing more than a big version of the basic 4x6 printer.

This is a looser.
