Author's Review
My husband has fallen in love with cooking (this is competition I can deal with). He watches everything on FoodTV. He idolizes Molto Mario and is a real groupie for Sara Moulton, Food 911's Tyler Florence, and even the Iron Chef. He follows Hot Off The Grill with Bobby Flay and is constantly re-inventing recipes. He's been taking cooking lessons along with our daughter at the local high schools and will be taking lessons with a Fench chef in Florida shortly.
I began to notice that the Big Kitchen Aide Stand Mixer seemed to be on every cook's counters. They were always incorporating this machine into the cooking regime. My husband noticed this also and mentioned more than once how much he wanted one. So, being the dutiful wife I notified Santa that this guy had a "jones" for the KitchenAide Mixer and lo and behold it appeared in husband's stocking. (Well, maybe not IN the stocking). That Santa is great with Bed, Bath and Beyond coupons.
This is a heavy duty piece of kitchen equipment. It has a 10 speed control selection from stir through fast whip, so that you can go from combining ingredients or mashing, kneading dough or batters to the delicate whipping of egg whites. Beating time is faster and more thorough and is half as long as other mixers. You don't need to keep scraping the bowl when mixing. You get beater height adjustment and great bowl support.
It has an incredible array of optional tools (about 18. You can get sausage stuffers, slicer shredders, fruit/vegetable strainers, grain mills and many, many more. There's even a can opener attachment. Our KitchenAide came with the flat beater, dough hook, and wisk. Additionally, I bought the grinder since we had a gift certificate at William-Sonoma and they carry the KitchenAide Stand Mixer. Ours came with a 5 quart bowl with handle but you can also get the 3 or 4 1/2 .quart mixer bowls if you choose. The 3 quart is ideal for beating cream or whipping egg whites. KitchenAide offers a Multi-Function Attachment Pack (Food Grinder, Rotor Slicer/Shredder/Fruit/Vegetable Strainer as a nice option. Everything can be ordered through the catalog they include in the packaging or you can hit your local stores with coupons or at sale time.
Christmas found my aproned, flour dusted husband churning out dumplings (Mom's family recipe), stroufelle (courtesy of Molto) and I made ruggelach pastry.
This is an extremely useful food preparation tool. It's so very versatile and the many accessories expand its capabilities even more. Best of all it made hubby very happy.
