KitchenAid KSB3 Classic 3 Speed Blender Of Course Daddy Can Make You a Icee.
Date of Review: Feb 1, 2001
The Bottom Line: This blender is easy to use. Most anything you would want to blend, this machine can handle. If you want crushed ice, this is the blender to buy
I received this Kitchen Aid 3-Speed Classic Blender KSB3 as a wedding gift, more then 11 years ago. I have used this blender almost weekly since, with no problems at all.
This blender has three settings : Stir, Mix, and Liquefy. There is also a button for pulse operation, and of course the on and off buttons. As mentioned in my pros for this product, the controls are a touch pad type design. Not like some other blenders with the buttons that pop up and down.
The Kitchen Aid 3-Speed Classic Blender KSB3 is 120V AC only. The makers of this blender recommend it for household use only. The motor is not made to hold up to the constant use it would receive if used in a restaurant. For that, you would need an industrial use blender.
On the bottom of the blender you will find the toll-free phone number for the service department: 1-800-422-1230. You will also find on the bottom the model number : KSB3WH and the serial number, which will be different for each blender. These are the numbers you will need if your blender needs parts or needs to be repaired.
Since I received this blender as a gift, I am not sure if it is available in other colors, but mine is white with a silver band on the base that says, Kitchen Aid in black lettering. The pitcher is made of heavy clear glass with markings on it to show amounts up to five cups. There is a white plastic lid. The lid opens in the center to allow for adding more items to the blender while it is running.
The plug on the Kitchen Aid 3-Speed Classic Blender KSB3 is three pronged, and the manufacturers suggest that you only plug it into grounded outlets. This will protect against power surges that may damage your blender.
We have found the ice crushing feature to be very useful. When our children are running a fever, we make ice chips, and icees. My kids will drink these when they can't seem to stand anything else. Great for fever reduction. This alone is a feature that makes this blender worth every penny!
This blender mixes very well, with not a lot of clumping around the blades in the bottom. This is where the pulse setting helps to dislodge anything that may have become stuck.
Cleaning this blender has proved to be simple enough. The pitcher and lid easily disassemble for washing, either by hand, or in the dishwasher. There is also a little felt-like ring inside the top of the lid,( this helps with sealing the lid tightly to the pitcher). After washing your lid, you need to make sure this piece is dry to avoid mildew forming on it. This happened to me once, after a quick soak in a bit of bleach water, it was as good as new again. The base of the blender you need to wipe off with a slightly damp cloth. The makers of this blender recommend that you not put cleaning sprays directly on the control panel, as they may potentially cause damage to the controls.
Another great feature of the Kitchen Aid 3-Speed Classic Blender KSB3, is that if you have not put the pitcher on the base correctly, the blender will not turn on. This may be a standard feature for all blenders, but I think it is a great feature, and needed to be mentioned.
