Terrible Product - Keeps frosting over and going warm

by   lindajordn ,   Sep 19, 2007

Pros:  Looks nice but is piece of junk

Cons:  Atrocious design. Hasn't worked since day 1. Too warm or too cold. defrost bad.

The Bottom Line:  Don't Buy this!!! It's an absolute lemon. I wish I never did and now am stuck with it.

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

Author's Review

I bought this product in early 2007 and had it installed in March 2007. It has NEVER worked properly - and goes warm after about a week of functioning!! After many loads of ruined food and service calls where they simply defrosted the refrigerator and left, my repairman called the Kitchenaid "tech line" and was told that this was a known problem. Apparently, bad defrost thermostats are in these models, and mine was replaced with a "60 degree defrost thermostat". I was guaranteed that this would fix the problem. Three guesses - It didn't!!. The fridge got cold, but was TOO cold after a few days - everything froze in my crispers, and the water coils to the dispenser (located at the back of the fridge) froze, so the dispenser didn't work unless I removed the drawers and manually broke up the ice in the lines. My fridge kept reading 26 degrees and my freezer would not go below 30 degrees. The top vent in the fridge is not blowing any air, the return on the bottom of the fridge is completely blocked with ice. I called KA for the millionth time and was told to call back A&E to schedule another service call. They said they'd be here in 10 days!! I called back KA and demanded something sooner, so A&E will be here tomorrow. I have asked for a new refrigerator, since it has never worked since day 1 and money back to cover 5 months of spoiled food. KA will not even consider this request. After reading the many horrible reviews on the KA side by sides with very similar problems, I am seriously considering taking legal action.
