LOVE IT!

The Bottom Line: Definitely recommended if you're a foodie gadget-lover, and want ways to make your time in the kitchen even more enjoyable.
About 1 year ago, I bought the KitchenAid basic blender with only the immersion attachment. At that time, I wanted it to make hot cream soups without transferring the base to a blender in batches. I worked like a charm. Then, I noticed my husband was pulling out our KA stand mixer to make whipped cream and making a huge mess in the process, I thought: there has to be an easier way. Unfortunately, I thought a Viking hand immersion blender to match my Viking appliances (which I love) with whisk and chopper attachments was the way to go. WRONG! After returning not 1 but 2 defective Viking blenders, I came back to KitchenAid and couldn't be happier. Cream soups, milkshakes and the like are a walk in the park for this immersion unit. But by switching out attachments (again, walk in the park), this little baby makes short work of a whole onion, celery in rough chunks, whips eggs/whites and cream into a submissive frenzy and can even incorporate dry ingredients. And it's such a fun, easy machine, my kids are turning into little sous chefs! And making whipped cream with this unit is easy and fun; again something my kids can do. My KA made me look like a rock star at Thanksgiving!
UPDATE:There are 9 speed settings (I personally have never gone past 3, but it's nice to know it's there) on the motor base which means you can control the speed on all your attachments. The unit has an ergonomic design and fits comfortably in either hand. The attachments are a snap to change/remove; there are two squeeze-latch type buttons on either side of the base. While the attachments remain very secure during use, all it takes is some gentle pressure to release. And don't worry, the release buttons are placed out of the way so there's no danger of accidentally releasing an attachment. Cleaning the unit is painless as well. After removing the attachments, I clean them (I hand-wash, but I believe they're dishwasher safe) and wipe down the motor body with a damp cloth and !Poof!, I'm done!!
