Great Gate.......once you get it put together

I just installed this gate today. I purchased two alternative mounting brackets along with it as recommended by the manufacturer. I consider myself relatively mechanically inclined but I must admit, this gate had me cussing. I honestly can't figure out for the life of me why it couldn't have come assembled instead of in 20 pieces. The manufacturer recommended the mounting kits because I was mounting on a wall that had base moulding and a stairwell banister. They were $16 each and as it turns out, I didn't need them. If you find yourself contemplating whether or not to buy them, save your money and get what you need from lowe's for $2. Once it's together it's an attractive addition and it's very functional. It's a lot sturdier than other gates we've had and it's very easy to use. It would be easier to remove for functions if the hardware was made out of something sturdier like aluminum or steel. The plastic hinges flex when you tighten the screws which contorts the shape of the hinge making it hard to slide off the covers.

I do like the fact that it only swings away from the steps so baby can do her "Let me outta here!" impression. Overall it's not bad. Just don't expect to have it up in 10 minutes.
