Author's Review
I'm not a huge fan of Reality TV, but being a huge music fan, I'm a fan of USA Network's Nashville Star. Miranda Lambert was a contestant on one of the seasons, she came in 3rd place but that didn't crash here dreams any. This Lindale, TX native in her early 20s is proving that she's not a one-hit wonder. Miranda's first hit "Me & Charlie Talking" received a lot of attention and airplay from radio and CMT. The song has that old style sound to it and talks about two kids making a promise to get married down the road and not realizing things would change when you got older. I like the sound and the beat of the song, it has that twang feel to it and the old style country.
Miranda's next single, "Bring Me Down" is a ballad that has a lot of heart, the song has some great lyrics and the chorus is well done. The song is about getting over someone and just trying to move on.
My favorite song on the album, and the next single to be released is the title track "Kerosene", a hard rocking tune that has some awesome lyrics. The song reminds me of John Mellencamp's older stuff, back when he released his Scarecrow album. I try to avoid posting lyrics in my reviews, but this is one of those you cannot pass up...
"I gave it everything I had and everything I got was bad
Life ain't hard but it's too long to live it like some country song
Trade the truth in for a lie, cheating really ain't a crime
I'm giving up on love cause love's given up on me
I'm hoping "Kerosene" gets the attention it deserves, because this is one of those you just want to crank up or just get out on the dance floor and dance to. I'm very interested in seeing what the video will be like for this song as well. The entire album is great, with songs like Love Your Memory, I Wanna Die, Greyhound Bound For Nowhere, and There's A Wall, it gives you a mix of this young lady's style and how she keeps her music real. Miranda's biggest influence is Merle Haggard, who she finally met on July 30th of this year. At the time of this review, Miranda's album is being re-released as a two-sided disc, one side is a DVD with footage of Miranda through the years, and the other side is her album. I'm not sure what all is on this version, I still need to pick up a copy, right now I just have the album I purchased from Itunes, so I cannot give any detail about the liner notes, and etc.
In closing the album is one for your collection if you like music by Lila McCann, Sara Evans and Martina McBride. I have turned a few friends into Ran Fans (this is what they call Miranda's fan club and fans in general), after hearing a few songs, they ended up buying the album. I'm giving this album a 5 star rating, great style and a good blend of songs, and something that I find myself playing a lot.
