Product Review

Too much heat from dehumidifier

by   pevo ,   Jun 26, 2007

Pros:  Takes out humidity well and easy to empty.

Cons:  Puts off way too much heat in the home.

The Bottom Line:  Takes out humidity very well but it gives off way too much heat, therefore, defeating the purpose of having the Air Conditioner on in your home.

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

Author's Review

Placed unit in our master bedroom closet (10'x12') with double doors opened and the entire bedroom/bathroom area stayed several degrees warmer than the rest of the house. Not our intention to heat the house in the summer. It worked well to take out the humidity. We had it the proper distance from all walls. If we place it in the utility room, it will be roughly the same size room. Has anyone else encountered the heat problem? Husband's workplace has a Dayton and he said it blows cool air from the vents. We have a temperature gun that we shot all around the unit - the wall behind the unit registered 100°. The ceramic floor it sits on was 86° while the guest bathroom ceramic floor registered 79°. So while we are running our AC trying to keep our home cool, the dehumidifier is putting additional heat into the air. It works well in removing the humidity, but we don't want the added heat. Sears has always made good products, perhaps we just got a lemon? We unplugged it last night and don't know if we will be able to return it. We still want a dehumidifier but will have to shop around. My sister-in-law has one (a different brand), so perhaps we just need another brand also. Running the dehumidifier is like having my oven on with the door open. When we go to bed at night, we would prefer our room to be cool in the summer; in the winter, it might feel nice to have the extra heat? We have tried setting it on different humidity levels, letting it run for the 6 hour on/6 hour off and the 3 hour on/3 hour off and it does not make a difference in the heat level.
