Worked great—for a while

The Kenmore 54501 dehumidifier is a nice looking product with great features. These include:

· 50 Pint capacity
· Energy Star compliant
· Humidity Setting (35%, 40%, etc.)
· Energy timer control that allows the machine to
run at 3 or 6 hour intervals
· Bucket full indicator lamp
· Auto restart in case of power failure
· Touch-pad button fan-speed selection
· External drain connector

I purchased our Kenmore 54501 dehumidifier from the local Sears store approximately 2 years ago. At first I was extremely happy with the product. It did a great job removing humidity from our basement, it was quieter than other dehumidifiers I have owned, and the energy timer control (allows machine to run for 3 or 6 hours at a time) was a nice feature to have. It was, what I thought, the perfect dehumidifier.

Unfortunately, it was to be too good to be true because after a year-and-a-half of use the dehumidifier stopped removing moisture from the air. The fan continued to run, but no water in the tank. Outside of the short lifespan the only thing I didn't like with the product was the bucket used to collect the moisture. The openings made it a little awkward to empty.
