Effective removing humidity in large area - two major issues

I am using this 50 pint dehumidifier to dry out a 1000 sq ft basement. I use a short piece of hose connected to the fitting on the back of the unit to drain into a condensate pump to pump the water out to the back yard. Setup was very quick, although the hose adapter is very flimsy and subject to pop out of the back. The digital control panel is intuitive. I set the unit for 50% humidity and it dried out the humid basement within a week. That is where the problems started. The unit now cycles on and off every 3-5 minutes. The second problem is in the case of a power outage, the unit does not retain its set point and defaults to always on. The unit features a device life extending feature that prevents the compressor from restarting too quickly in the case of a power cycle.
