Kenmore Dehumidifier - Keeps the Creeping Funk at Bay

Date of Review:  Jun 13, 2008
The Bottom Line: Helps keep our primitive basement dry, with hardly any effort from us.
Review: We were lucky to get a roughly "finished" basement when we bought our more than 100 year old home a few years ago. Many houses of that era in our area have dirt floor basements. We were even luckier to have not one or two, but three sump pumps...

It removes moisture, and that's okay by me

Date of Review:  Jan 9, 2005
The Bottom Line: Given other reviews, I was hesitant to buy a Kenmore, but this unit has met my expectations for a dehumidifier.
Review: The dehumidifier is taller than wide, and about as wide as deep. It has handles on the sides, for lifting the unit. The entire device rolls around on built-in casters.

For getting rid of water once it is collected, the 54501 uses either a...

Worked great?for a while

Date of Review:  May 11, 2007
The Bottom Line: Avoid this product or be sure to get an extended warranty that will cover any and all repairs. The short life-span makes me hesitant to recommend it to others.
Review: The Kenmore 54501 dehumidifier is a nice looking product with great features. These include:

? 50 Pint capacity
? Energy Star compliant
? Humidity Setting (35%, 40%, etc.)
? Energy timer control that allows the machine to...

Too much heat from dehumidifier

Date of Review:  Jun 26, 2007
The Bottom Line: Takes out humidity very well but it gives off way too much heat, therefore, defeating the purpose of having the Air Conditioner on in your home.
Review: Placed unit in our master bedroom closet (10'x12') with double doors opened and the entire bedroom/bathroom area stayed several degrees warmer than the rest of the house. Not our intention to heat the house in the summer. It worked well to take out...

Buy another brand, this one is a real dog.

Date of Review:  Jun 13, 2005
The Bottom Line: Stay away. It is unreliable.
Review: I bought this dehumidifier based on its capacity, price, and the Kenmore name. At first I was impressed by the digital humidity readout and the 3 and 6 hour cycle options. The unit was fairly noisy, but no more than other dehumidifiers I have had...

Cycles off and on, Humidity not correct

Date of Review:  Jul 10, 2007
Review: I have had five of these units bought from Sears in the last week. Not one works properly.

Every unit cycles off and on every 2-3 minutes, even if the humidity is unchanged.

The LED for humidity on the unites is off by 20% on the...

Kenmore Dehumidifier - Did Not Last Long

Date of Review:  Jun 25, 2009
The Bottom Line: I will never buy another Kenmore dehumidifier and probably not any other Kenmore appliances after my experiences with this unit.
Review: I purchased the Kenmore Model 580.54501 50 pint dehumidifier in June of 2007 when my wife and I moved into our new house.  The house has a basement and like most basements it has a tendency to have a damp feel to it.  The Kenmore dehumidifier worked...

Effective removing humidity in large area - two major issues

Date of Review:  Sep 16, 2005
Review: I am using this 50 pint dehumidifier to dry out a 1000 sq ft basement. I use a short piece of hose connected to the fitting on the back of the unit to drain into a condensate pump to pump the water out to the back yard. Setup was very quick,...

Bye bye water!

Date of Review:  Oct 16, 2005
Review: The Sears store that I went to did not have a broad selection of dehumidifiers so I went with this one. It was supposed to be for moderate to high humidity needs. We certainly had high humidity (our basement just flooded). Once the carpet was...

Both Overflowed

Date of Review:  Jun 4, 2006
Review: We purchased the 54501 from Sears. It ran well for a few months, then overflowed- i.e. did not shut off-float valve didn't work. Thinking the first overflow was an anomaly, we waited until it happen again. Sears required us to return it their...
