My air conditioning unit went out a couple of months ago, and the part needed to fix it is on back order, with no definate date of arrival in mind.
My friend has been on the lookout for ways to cool my home in the hot, humid, NC weather, and brought me a window unit air conditioner first, which condenses a lot and is very loud.
Recently she found this Honeywell HW628 Window Mount Fan that someone was getting rid of and asked if she could give it to me, so that is how I wound up with one of these window fans.
The first thing about this fan? The clean up is a breeze! Who ever had it did not take care of it, and it was covered in grime. I was able to easily wipe down and clean the entire unit with a paper towel and some gentle cleaner, making it look brand new.
The adjustable grills allow you to control the breeze, and snap on and off for easy cleaning.
The fan for the unit is rain proof, so it can be used even on wet days.
There are 2 fans that sit side by side and work independently. Each of the two fans has it's own switch to set for "fresh air" or "exhaust." Each fan also has it's own dial with the options of "off" "super" "high" and "low."
These controls are all located between the two fans. You can set one fan to "fresh air" and the other to "exhaust" which is what I am doing. You can also run one fan, while keeping the other turned off. As stated, each fan works independent of the other.
Fresh air will cool the room while exhaust will pull the air out of the room, and you can have both features running at the same time, which is what I am currently doing.
Above all of this, centered on the upper portion of the unit, is a temperature control to help you regulate the temperature of the room.
There are adjustable side screens to fit windows between widths of 23 inches and 38.5 inches. The unit can be installed on a vertical or horizontal window.
The fan I have is an off white color, and the dimensions are 23 inches wide, 6 inches deep, and 12 inches high, when placed horizontally. The unit weighs around 9 pounds, so it is relatively light weight.
The unit is pretty quiet, so sleeping with it running would not be bothersome.
Also, there is the benefit of having not to worry about condensation with this unit. I have not noticed any "bad points" to it as of yet, actually.
This unit is versatile in that it has various speeds, two independent fans, easy to clean and remove grills, can be positioned vertically or horizontally, has temperature control, and the option of using either fan on exhaust or fresh air mode.
UPDATE: I did want to add that this unit is powered by electricity, and is not battery operated.
