Author's Review
The KT200 is an audio conferencing telephone that has to be plugged into an analog phone line or to the analog port of a digital telephone, assuming that your PBX supports it. If your phone line is digital, you have to buy a digital to analog signal converter. If the KT200 will be plugged into the phone, I recommend Konexx's KONFERENCE or if plugging into the wall, I recommend Konexx's DWI single or dual wall adapter but contact your phone system provider for the best solution.
The KT200 is a fully featured full duplex phone which includes LCD display, expansion ports for the optional expansion mics, caller ID (subscription required), address book, etc. Quality-wise, it is equal or better than the Polycom Soundstation2 with subtle technological differences.
KT200 uses a true full duplex mic technology called OmniSound. Think of a big fishing net being thrown into the water and whatever is within that big fishing net will be caught. Polycom uses Acoustic Clarity Technology where the its 3 corner mics work independently of each other. Think of 3 gates that opens and closes. When one gate is open, the other two are automatically closed. The mics constantly turns off and on (or opens and closes) depending on which mic (or gate) picks up the sound. This happens in a fraction of second so no one really notices it unless you're at the receiving end where "clipping" or abrupt silence can be minutely heard and detected. With KT200, this doesn't happen. When two people speak from one end, both can be heard. The OmniSound technology best suits teleconferencing and better defines what a full-duplex phone should do.
With Soundstation2, the reception is always louder than transmission. I am unsure whether this is by design or not. It gives you the impression that you'll sound the same on the other side. The KT200 was engineered to have a balanced reception and transmission ratio.
Price-wise, the KT200 price positioned to be lower than the leading brand. In addition, the KT200 has a 2 year warranty. The leading brand only has 1 year warranty.
About the main unit itself, the LCD display is not visually appealing. Its kinda yellow/green background while the leading brand is more soothing with a lighter LCD background. I find the keypad on the KT200 old-fashioned while the leading brand has more contemporary look.
