Pros:
Great sound, incredible value
Cons:
None that I have seen [heard]
The Bottom Line:
A Best Buy! The quality is on par with many expensive units; the extremely low price is the clincher, however. What a great value!

Author's Review
I had been searching long and hard for a subwoofer for my home stereo/AV Theater system. Given that my receiver didn't have a sub power amp, I needed a powered model. However, everywhere I looked, all I found were nice subwoofers at exhorbitant prices. I am a stickler for quality, especially when it comes to my AV systems...so I would not settle for a little 60w no-name woofer.
After much searching, I finally found the KLH ASW10-120 at Sam's Club (or, rather, my girlfriend did, knowing that I was in the market for one). The price blew everything else out of the water! JBL 120w subs all went for $200-$250, and at $100, this one was a steal. So, knowing that KLH had a good reputation, I purchased it, and have been very happy with the product over the past year and 1/2.
The sound is great, and it adds that final dimension to your musical and theater experience. At 120 watts, the bass delivery is more than ample for most home theater system. The frequency range, at 30hz-200hz, is impressive as well, and meets all of our audio needs (especially when we want to get back at our neighbors by cranking the sub and playing some reggae). It is easy to hook up, though I found that the monster cable cost nearly half as much as the subwoofer itself. The input/output setup on the subwoofer allows you to either hook it to your receiver directly via RCA cable, or (in case your receiver does not have direct subwoofer output) you can daisy-chain it into your front speaker line. The controls on the back of the sub allow you to adjust the volume and the cutoff frequency (how low the input can be before the subwoofer ceases audio output). This is useful, because you can set it to come on with just a small amount of bass input, or set it to only respond when a high amount of bass is registered.
The aesthetic quality was also important. I've noticed that most home A/V speakers are cased in the same black wood-like shell. This is definitely a plus, because it means that no matter what brand I purchase, they won't clash visually. I have a KLH sub, a Pioneer center channel, and Sony surround and front speakers, and they all look great together. This sub, with its front-firing design, black casing and standard mesh front cover, fits in well aesthetically with most home speaker setups. My thought, with speakers, is that the less you notice them, the better. The KLH ASW10-120 is enjoyably discreet.
Overall, we are pleased with the product, regardless of the low price, and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a subwoofer, on a budget or not.
