Product Review

My opinion is just as real as their slogan ...

by   MissMellie ,   Jun 22, 2000

Pros:  It's a magazine that's all about girls and their feelings . And also some pretty cool clothes .

Cons:  Maybe a different slogan like " For girls who dare to be the best they can be"

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars
Trendiness: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

For one , I know that some people get upset about or think that the slogan "For girls who dare to be real" sounds corny , but hey ! You try to run a major magazine that sells at least 3 million copies a year , think up a catchy name for it , and try to find a slogan that fits your magazine , articles , and the reader . Now I know most of you couldn't do that if you only had about a month in order to do so . Did I not mention find a place to print , copy , and have a place to put your workers in ? I didn't think so . Now enough of being snotty , lets get down to buisness .

Now I just happen to be a subscriber to JUMP magazine & even Teen People , Seventeen , and YM . Although I'd prefer to read YM , I am still going to give my opinion on JUMP . Now wait , lets back up , I mean I'd prefer to read JUMP any day of the week . I've just realized I bairly touch my issues of YM as much as my JUMP issues . Now on with the show ! I've read every issue I own from cover to cover and I still enjoy reading . Some of the best parts about it are about sharing your feelings and opinions and knowing that someone will enjoy reading about it . I mean you can even write in and complain or complement about something you liked/dislike in their past issues . Someone even wrote in about their slogan . And I will display this , word for word from my JUMP magazine , april 2000 issue .

" I am extremely angry with your motto , "For girls who dare to be real." For girls my age to be "real," they should not read your fake as faux fur magazine. When I bought your Dec/Jan/Feb 2000 issue , I thought it might be like Sept/Oct 97. Now JUMP is all about consumerism. I only found one article I really enjoyed : "Natural-Born Beauty." Now that was real . I am proud to say that I , too, am as real as the ground we walk on . Although I doubt you care."

Now I know I'm trying to give a good opinion but she does have a good point . For some girls they think when they say real , it means that you have to be sexually active or something . But from my point of view , I think they mean that real is to be yourself and not try to be someone your not . For many girls my age they think being real in their point of view is being cool and acting preppy . And I mean it's alright to act cool and try to fit in , but if fitting in with one group doesn't work there are probably lots of other groups to fit into without feeling like a complete loser . And that's mainly what the writers in most of the articles featured in JUMP magazine are trying to say . Because of the April 2000 issue , I have recently decided to take interest in yoga , and to excercise , eat healthy , and be the best person I can be for my best interest .

All in all , this magazine is pretty darn good !
