Author's Review
I recently checked "Jump" out of my local library and thought it was one of the best magazines I had ever read. Sure, it has articles on fashion and other things girls are interested in, but it also has thought-provoking articles such as how NOT to gossip and girls who play extreme sports, which -guess what?- girls are interested in too . It also has a monthly workout, which focuses on getting fit, strong, and flexible, instead of losing weight. It has awesome ideas on self-esteem and how not to base your self-worth on a number.
I know that some people think that all teen magazines are all about fashion and brainwashing girls into being Barbie dolls, but I really don't think that's true at all. As I mentioned, "Jump" has interesting articles- but if you look at "Seventeen" and other "teenybopper" magazines, you will find that nearly all of them have several articles on real issues, such as binge drinking and body image.
And so what if there are ideas on makeup, style, music, movies, etc.? They're magazines, not classic novels! People read magazines just to chill out and relax for a while. Life should not be all hard work and no play- girls do not have to spend every waking moment on classwork and other difficult things- kids, of all people, should get to JUST RELAX!
In my opinion, "Jump" is a fantastic way to check out real, interesting issues while still getting your "teen magazine" fix.
