More Bang for the Buck
Date of Review: Dec 11, 2006
The Bottom Line: Buy this amp. If you want bass that is accurate & complements your overall sound system this amp will do it.
Very nice amp. I have these powering a pair of old JL Audio 10W1 subs. I have the gain set at around 45%. Very loud, clean sound. The bass is deep & focused. No distortion even at loud volumes. Also the amp doesn't even really get hot. After pounding some tunes for an hour straight the heatsink temperature was moderate to the touch. Nothing to cause alarm. I like the crossover on this amp. Easy to set & it filters the frequency correctly to my ear. For the price, $261 shipped on Ebay, I can't complain. I like the way that it's engineered to produce 250 watts rms from 1.5 ohms all the way to 4 ohms. Comparing this amp to my old Crunch powerzone 350 is night & day. The Crunch had the power but it wasn't the cleanest sounding amp. The JL has more power & it sounds way cleaner than the Crunch. With the Crunch it would pick up some engine noise, I would hear a rumble coming through the subs at low volumes. With the JL no engine noise. I just swapped the amps out, same wires. Engine rumble, gone. A well engineered amp. Like I said, more bang for the buck. I was a bit worried hooking this amp up to my old JL 10W1 subs because they are rated for a rms of 125 & of course this amp is rated at 250 rms. But after setting the gain moderately to complement the gain on my other amp (a JL 300/4) I think the subs are going to survive. Like I said no distortion even at loud volumes. Everything sounds as it should. No funny popping sounds from the subs or anything of that nature. If anything the subs sound more relaxed playing with the extra power. With the Crunch amp (rated at 175 rms) I could hear the subs distorting slightly at louder volumes (when I was really pushing the system). With the JL I push the system & their is no distortion any where. You know that little bit of color in the sound & you're not sure what is introducing it into your system (cables, head unit, speakers, amps) but you can hear it at very loud volumes. Well thanks to JL Audio I no longer have that problem in my car system.
