Jet--A must read!!
Date of Review: Dec 2, 2003
The Bottom Line: This magazine may be small but it packs a powerful informative punch about African Americans. It also gives insight about issues affecting the African American community.
I have been reading Jet magazine for as long as I can remember. It is one of the only consistent magazines in my household. Usually I buy them from the supermarket, but since I have recently started a subscription to them, I can't wait for it to come in the mailbox. It is informative, meaningful, and positive all at the same time.
The cover usually has an African American celebrity on it. It gives Jet magazine's website, as well as some of the stories you will find inside the magazine. Next, after the table of contents, you will find informative articles such as the "National Report", which basically keeps you up to date on politics and other issues in government affecting the African American community. There is a "Crime" section, "Census", "This Week in Black History", "Newsmakers", and so much more.
I also enjoy reading the "Education" articles because it provides substantial information about African American colleges and universities, and how up and coming students are making a difference not only in their neighborhoods, but across the country as well. There are photos of celebrities, as well as the "Beauty of the Week", which spotlights a new African American woman each week. Along with the "Society World" which has announcements and photos of newlyweds and those celebrating anniversaries, there is also the Sports and Music sections of the magazines.
All of these articles have become a favorite in my household over the years. Not only does this magazine keep you in the know about different African American stars, but it also shines a wonderful spotlight on those making a difference in the nation and all over the world.
The newsstand price is usually $1.50, and these magazines can be found in basically any drugstore or supermarket. For more info and subscription information the website is www.jetmag.com.
