Jenny Lind is only a design
Date of Review: Jul 28, 2001
The Bottom Line: Million Dollar Baby makes fine cribs. Are you certain your "Jenny Lind" is a genuine crib? Or are you contemplating a lower grade imitation? Know your "Jenny Lind" before purchasing!
After reading many opinions, both good and bad, regarding the "Jenny Lind" crib, I really must intervene with some information that consumers should be aware of. As taken directly from the Million Dollar Baby's website, http://www.milliondollarbaby.com/M301.htm, please note the following:
M301 Jenny Lind Crib
The best Jenny Lind crib you can find in the world, using American made metal crib hardware. Single-drop side with steel Stabilizer Bar. Unlike others, we don't use any inferior foreign made metal hardware.
Meets and exceeds all US safety standards.
Notice our fully turned spindles on the entire crib. Other "Jenny Lind - like" cribs have square posts, flat slat spindles and/or plastic hardware. Inspect carefully before you buy.
ALL CRIBS ARE NOT MADE THE SAME.
Million Dollar Baby is the number 1 name in Jenny Lind !
Size: 54.5"X30.5"X44.5"H
Available in Cherry, Maple, Natural, Oak, Unfinished and White.
Please note how they refer to "Jenny Lind - like" cribs. When I was pregnant with my third child, I was impressed with the Jenny Lind design. I found it to be an appealing decor to my newest addition's room. However, where to buy it was most difficult to decide. When I was in any store that had baby items, I would always stop to browse. It seemed every store carried "Jenny Lind". However, Wal-Mart's version was made of plastic material with wood design. Another store had more of a wood-based material, but it shook terribly when touched. Then at a third store, I found a sturdier version that had a more wood appeal. The price range for these three cribs was from $99 to $149. I opted for the $149, BUT here's what happened!
The crib didn't withstand my aging son's activity. At a little over a year of age, he managed to push free one whole side of the crib so as to break free from his captivity. From a nearby room, the splintering of wood was startling! We had no idea that a crib could fall so easily! He ended up cutting his leg, as it was wedged under the collapsing frame. Now why did this happen? Was it "Jenny Lind"'s fault? Absolutely not! The manufacturer of this particular model did not use the care in constructing this crib that the Million Dollar Baby company uses.
Now let me point out the price differences from the actual crib being reviewed versus the models you see in department stores across America. I have read many opinions that stated that the crib is reasonably priced; most paying under $120. The actual retail price of the Million Dollar Baby's "Jenny Lind" crib retails between $200 and $300, depending on which fine store you purchase it at. Million Dollar Baby is also known as DaVinci, another leading name known for their fantastic furniture!
As this company notes on their website, ALL CRIBS ARE NOT MADE THE SAME. Use caution when reviewing this manufacturer, and when purchasing for your child. The product in question is not "Jenny Lind", but it is Million Dollar Baby's Jenny Lind.
