Product Review

Great Range

by   myrnapap ,   Apr 19, 2004

Pros:  Looks great. Bakes evenly. High capacity burner saves time.

Cons:  Cook top is easily scratched and controls get hot when cooktop is in use.

The Bottom Line:  I recommend this product. It looks good and does a good job too.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

I have the Jenn Air dual fuel slide in range for about a year. When I updated my kitchen, I wanted the look of a cooktop but I didn't have room for a wall oven. So I picked the Jenn Air slide in range and I had the counter people put a strip of granite at the back of the range top and it looks terrific. It's worth the extra money to do this rather than use the black filler strip that comes with the range. I picked the dual fuel option because I had learned that cook tops should be gas while ovens should be electric. Well, it's amazing how much faster it is to cook on a gas burner. I will never miss my electric coils. The convection oven really lives up to expectation when I bake cookies or brownies. There is no burning on the edges and all the cookies get baked the same. But I have no idea how to use the convection roast feature or the bread proofing or drying features. The range provides a bake, convection bake, and convection roast feature as well as a broiler. There are 3 oven racks which are excellent for baking. There are two timers and an oven light. The self clean feature is easy to use and works well.

A complaint I have about this range is the black top. It shows every drip and even water leaves splotches. I would have preferred a stainless steel top. The top is also easily scratched. I would not recommend this range to those who have young children because the controls are easily reached at the front and they do get hot when the cook top is used.

One of the epinions members asked me about the ease of use when lifting a heavy item like a large turkey out of the oven. This is an issue for sure although it's probably an issue for any free-standing range. The door is 'in the way' and to get something out does require a bend-over position. If you have a choice of using a range vs. a wall oven, I'd vote for the wall oven. It wasn't an option in my kitchen, so I just have to try to take care when bending.
