1995 Wrangler S 4 cyl./5 speed Soft-top
Pros:
Great off-road, nimble, and a blast to drive. Inexpensive to own.
Cons:
Small interior cargo space, not a comfy road-tripper.
The Bottom Line:
If you Have less than four people to transport, need a winter vehicle, short commuter, or go off-road, there is NO better value in four wheel drive. 1995 or today!

Author's Review
I bought this Jeep brand new in 1-05. I now have over 197k miles and love it more now than the day I bought it. I can say that honestly because I traded a 6 cylinder Jeep Comanche pick-up in on this Jeep. My son was getting too big to fit in the middle seat of the truck. I had wanted the 4.0 liter motor, but could'nt find a Wrangler locally with the options I wanted.
The four cylinder is not a fire-breathing monster, but it is really fun and peppy around town and off-road. It is not particularly happy on the highway with 75 mph speed limits. The plus side is that if you accept this fact, take two-lane roads and stay under 60 mph or so, you can pull 20-25 miles per gallon.
I am a Jeep guy, and like to work on my own vehicles. The key to reliability is maintenance. Jeeps are no exception. The beauty of Jeeps, is they are simple by design, so easy to work on. 1991 through 1995 ( and 96 Wranglers ) four and six cylinder Jeeps are all multi-point fuel injected, OBD I. Reliable and Simple. Trouble codes are retreivable with the ignition switch. This makes it easy to diagnose and repair if needed. The other thing about the emission and fuel system is that most parts are universal for the four and six cylinder motors. Taking spare parts on the trails is much simpler this way if you are wheeling with friends that have similar Jeeps.
The Wrangler is small and nimble, making it great off-road and around town, but is not a luxury vehicle in ride or appointments. Just know this going into a Jeep Wrangler and you will love yours, too!
