Product Review

Bond is back this time in third person ,and with some very familiar faces.

by   rpgaddict ,   Feb 23, 2004

Pros:  Professional actors/actresses involved.

Cons:  Camera angles aren't always great.

The Bottom Line:  This game may wind up receiving a five star rating with a little more play time.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

Bond Everything or Nothing is this the same Bond we’ve known in previous 2 incantations? Nope, not first person likes of “Agent Under Fire” or “Nightfire”, but instead third person. Third what, yes third person view. Here all of Bond is seen as he moves. When 007 turn in any direction you see the turn. Bond crouches low, and creeps with little sound towards his foe. Yes that you’ll see as well. 007 will shoot his rappel gun to move up or down an inaccessible wall, the movement on the wall will be seen. Rise your aiming upwards to hit an enemy above the movement of the gun with the hands and arms and shoulders is seen. Bond runs towards an enemy and shoots him, the once alive foe screaming ahhhh! Sometimes I’ll hear then say I got hit if they don’t fall. James will also use wall cover.

While close to a wall press the R button, and Bond places to back of his body very close to the wall, turning his head forward. This can sometimes be annoying, as you may have to get him out of this position to actually see what is ahead. The camera focuses mostly if not all on the area of the wall cover. When in a crouched position James can actually turn in different directions and shoot. With wall cover so far I’ve only seen him shoot straight ahead. This does take away some of the realistic feel of the first person 007 games. However that does not necessarily mean that it’s a bad viewpoint.Seeing this viewpoint reminded me of Siphon Filter, which I saw my cousin play for a little while at his house.

For anyone not familiar with first person shooters, most if not all the time all you’ll see is the weapon, or gadget in your hands. The area up to the forearm may be seen with some weapons and gadgets. With first person view your seeing the attacks, as if you're actually doing them. So just what’s the story like?

Here is the story coming directly from the “Everything or Nothing” game manual of the Gamecube version.

Greetings,007. We have a new mission for you that is of the greatest importance.“The recent theft of Oxford University ‘s highly classified nano -robot project----and disappearance of it’s overseer. Dr. Katya Nadonova---- has caused chaos in the global intelligence community. This nanobot project was a humanitarian effort intended to facilitate the remote inspection and repair of hazardous nuclear containment facilities. However, in the wrong hands, this technology could be used for entirely more sinister purposes. (Page 8 Nintendo Gamecube manual for 007 “Everything or Nothing”)

This is where you come in, Bond. We’ve already identified the rogue political faction responsible for the theft and tracked them to a secret facility in Egypt’s Sahara Desert. Your mission, 007 is to destroy both the hardware and the facility. The fate of the world may very well rest once again on your success. Good luck 007 (All words in the last two paragraphs come from page eight of the 𣸿 Everything or Nothing” manual for the Nintendo Gamecube.

This game actually features real life famous people other than Pierce Brosnan. Willem Dafoe plays the Nikolai Diavolo a prodigy of Max Zorin an earlier adversary. Shannon Elizabeth plays Serena St. Germaine an American geologist Bond will meet in Peru. Heidi Klum is Dr. Katya Nadonova a scientist who played part in the bringing about of the stolen nanotech.I think she may really be on Diavolo’s side based on a cinematic scene I saw.Jaws (Richard Kiel, he’s been in at least two 007 films. Mya staring as agent Mya Starling her home base is in New Orleans, and she too keeps an eye on Diavolo. Q ( John Cleese ) seen in the previous Bond movie “Die Another Day.” M (Judi Dench) assign Bond his missions. Ms. Nagai (Misaki Ito) Q’s assistant who aids 007.

The locations for this game are Egypt, Peru, New Orleans, La., and Moscow. I have read in a video game magazine that there are over twenty levels in this game. I looked in a hint book to see if this statement was true. The hint book showed more than 25 levels. However this game also has coop. missions so I am not sure if the cooperative missions were included. I truly believe the two are counted separately but not 100 percent positive. The locations for the coop. missions are different than the missions Bond must complete. So I would certainly believe the two are separated.

The first mission for coop takes place in Tunisia. In Tunisia enemies will shoot from from high and low places. Bombs must be diffused also in Tunisia. On one of the missions in Tunisia no player can die. After I see more of Tunisia and the other areas for cooperative mode, I may add more about cooperative play.

In the first scene Bond is disguised as a terrorist, a gunfight breaks out James must destroy all the guards pick up a suitcase. Destroy some artillery looking units, destroy a jet fighter, and escape through a hole in the wall. Mission two he’s in a virtual reality training session. Mission three you’ll have to drop a bomb down some kind of pipe looking item. The rappel gun will come in handy as well, ohh do be careful of explosions. Watch out for the guards they have rappel guns just like James Bond. Other missions include having to get onboard a train. You’ll actually have to drive underneath the train in a “Triumph Daytona 600” motorcycle or a “Porsche Cayenne Turbo”. While on the train make sure the computers are put out of operating order. At the end you get to fistfight Jaws. Chase and annihilate a Generals Helicopter in Egypt.

In Peru Serena will fall and you'll have to catch her, but you'll fall as well. Serena will drive a tank through a Peruvian town, while you shoot. Two tanks and a helicopter await at this mission's end.Drive through New Orleans on Bond's Aston Martin V12 Vanquish, to meet with agent Mya Starling. New Orleans is so cool to drive through, in this game the streets glow green. While in New Orleans you'll have a shootout in a cemetary, and prevent Agent Mya Starling from being sent inro a crematorium fire.
Jean LaRouge( a henchman working for one of Diavolos bosse's) will attck Bond as he tries to save agent Mya.LaRouge is equipped with a crossbow ,that shoots explosives attached to the arrows.

Use Thermovision to spot enemies in dark alleyways. Witness the Nikolai’s dealing with agent 003. Explore ruins in Peru. Meet your new friend the Q- Spider this little robotic spider can help you get items, and he can detonate. Drive the Porsche Cayenne Turbo through Peru using it’s invisibility feature, and watch out for those tanks. On one mission the elevator must be used, but it cannot be used right away.

The enemies I’ve seen so far are dressed mostly in military attire. Many have Kevlar helmets, some have gas masks, others wear military uniforms, with cloth to cover their face, and some are dressed like civilians. Three difficulty levels exists, operayive, agent, and 00 agent. I have been doing the agent difficult levels and have unlocked mostly production stills. Sleeper darts make an appearance again.A sniper gun known as the Dragunov is quite handy. Especially when someone is shooting missiles at you on top of a roof. The Ak-74 is a nice machine gun to have, it fires rounds pretty quickly, and holds a good amount of rounds. The P99 is a hand held pistol. I believe there is a pistol more powerful than the Ak-74. A missile launcher is available; this is good for blowing up a radar. Not only can you punch an enemy but kick and throw them an evasive tactic is also present. Straight punches to the stomach and head with uppercuts are now used.

The first scene the scene with the music video, involves silver tanks which fall from the top of the screen in to a formation of many tanks, the communist Russian flag, silver triangles coming together forming a red star. Several different kinds of silver colored pistols are shown. The background is white the credits are red. Everything else I’ll let you see and hear for yourself.
Multiplayer wise a game called Arena must be unlocked up to four players can participate.

Race is described is described as a mission where you team is given only so much time to complete a assigned task. Scramble is another multiplayer mode where you and a friend must decide how the computer will score your competition. Sound wise pretty everything you want to hear will be heard. Realistic gunshots, the sound of the rappel gun being shot, pick an item up, switching weapons, the sound of the feet hitting the walls as you move with the cord of the rappel gun. The sounds of missiles being fired soaring through the air and exploding. In short for anyone who absolutely loves sound I can’t think of anything left out.

Now for a little bit on controls, press up on the control pad to cycle through gadgets. Press down with same pad to cycle through weapons. The top right button fires the weapon. The top L button locks onto your target, and allows the Drugunov’s sniper’s large crosshair to be accessed. Press up on the control pad to zoom in and out of the target with the Drugunov sniper gun. C stick moves a little red dot. This red dot can tell the crosshair to shoot at different sections of the body. The C stick also allows 007 to look in different directions. Analog stick moves Bond. Sometime later in the week I will add a rating system to this review and maybe some more information about the game.

If action is what the player wants, and the thought of fate of the world being in your hands seems exiting. Why not Give Everything or Nothing a try.I like the game very much and can’t wait to see more of both the levels and the cinematic scenes. Maybe I’ll learn more of the connection between Max Zorin and Nikolai Diavolo. Doesn’t Diavolov sound more Russian? Learning whether or not Heidi Klum’s character is really against Bond should also prove interesting. So far seems to me she’s more for Nikolai. Just what kind of weapons will Diavolo have against 007?

My friend played a demo version of this game. He said there is a scene where you attack Jaws from the motorcycle. Nope Jaws didn’t die I’ve known this since not long after beating him in the fistfight. He really pounded me a good number of times. I’d say at least five times. Will any other infamous villains appear? All this and more I really want to know so I’m going to play this game a lot. Can this game compare in greatness, possibly exceed other Bond games?I'd say so and I can't possibly see my mind being changed.

Rating

1.graphics 9

2.entertainment 9.5

3.recommend videogame to a friend 10

4.Pay full price if game can not be found cheaper.8

5.storyline8 I think I like the storyline for Nightfire a little better. Even though "Everything or Nothing" does not have a bad storyline.

6.Value of playing game with more than one person.10

7. Chances of buying the next 007 game after playing "Everything Or Nothing"? 9.5

8.Buy this game as a gift,is this a good idea? 9 Not all but many people, I feel would like this kind of shooter.

9. replay value10 With coop. mode areana and other multiplayer modes, this can easily be played again after being beaten once.

10. variety 9 A motorcycle with flamethrowers, remote control cars with lasers, guns with sleeper darts,a nano suit that gives temporary invisibilty, coin grenades and many other interesting weapons and gadgets. Yes we certainly have Variety in this new installment to the 007 video game series.

11.difficulty8 This is based on my experiences with the agent difficulty level. The three difficulty levels are Operative, Agent and ,00 Agent.

12. Put game on layaway, if it's the last copy and you don't have fifty bucks plus tax, and there's no other video game stores within an hour drive, or it's sold out at other video game stores in town. 8.5 I'm sure there are other alternatives but this isn't a horrible idea.

overalll rating 9.04 or another way to look at it overall 904 out of 1,000 points
