J. Lo Knows Passion's Embrace and Sensuality

by   dearladyb ,   Sep 30, 2001

Pros:  The music is heartfelt, if you have ever been in love you will "get it".

Cons:  Not long enough

The Bottom Line:  I find this an excellent album telling a story song by song.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

Jennifer Lopez has been ridiculed by many. This is one lady that can appreciate her talents yet still envy her in a good way. The lady has it “goin on”; she is the sexiest woman in the USA and quickly becoming the wealthiest. Her talents are diverse from singing, dancing, to acting. She crosses all boundaries and that takes guts. Her gutsy attitude has kept me watching and listening. She broke the mold of what the “normal’ sexy woman was suppose to look like, her music allows you to feel that we are all sexy in our own way.

J. Lo has it together on this album. She is singing about breaking out, breaking down and rebuilding a new love. Not only can she sing, but also she invokes a happy attitude with this album.

It is a dance hip/hop ditty bop album. I pop it in and start cleaning house and cannot help but start to move. My broom and I are great dance partners. It looks forward to the daily sweep.

My tastes are diverse from Yanni, Clint Black to J.Lo. A must for any album or song for me is that it invokes some type of emotion. If emotion is your objective, you have go to get this album. I would suggest the advanced version with the remixes on them is a bit better.

Sony lists this under Rock; I feel it is not an appropriate listing online.

J. Lo
1. Love Don't Cost A Thing 3:42

Dance mix, hip/hop. A woman letting her man know that it is not his money she wants, it is him. Most men even now do not understand this. You don’t have to buy love it is given freely, the gifts men give us is not what we are wanting at all. Love is what we want. The name of this tune says it all.

2. I'm Real 4:58

Reminds me of an old disco hit (oops showing my age). A tune you can easily dance to. She tells what you see with your woman is what you get. No hidden agendas in our world. I am real, no fake nails, weaves, or fake colored contact eyes. We stand by our man as long as he can admit who we are to their friends not just “my friend”.

3. Play 3:32

Dance beat with synths; I really get into this one. She is bringing back days gone by of synth use. Simple song about playing your favorite song at club that you cannot hear enough of it. “Hey Mr. D. J. come on play that song, play it all night long cause I wanna be dancing all night long.” Although I haven’t clubbed in years I remember when…….

4. Walking On Sunshine 3:46

Dance beat, with more synth use, for some reason these songs are something I remember from when I was a teen in the late 70’s to early 80’s. Light and airy, very touching, she is talking about a love that makes her walk on sunshine, floating above it all. We have all hopefully felt this way at one time or another. Thinking it would last forever. Finger popping, butt bopping fun music.

5. Ain't It Funny 4:06

Latin flavor, dance, pop tune. Trying to move on when you still have feelings for one you thought you loved so dearly. She starts to sing about love failing and how it would hurt to try again. In her heart she will always have that perfect love if there is such a thing. “Ain’t if funny how a moment can change your life and you don’t know what’s wrong or right.”

6. Carino 4:15

Pure Latin pop, grab your partner start at the hips and move. She is describing how much she wants her man and how she cannot control her feelings. “I wish that I could spend all my days and nights in your arms cause all I can see is you and me and no one else.” She is conveying the thoughts of love through dance.

7. Come Over 4:54

Slow dance ballad, very sensual talking about erotic, sensual love and how she enjoys spending this time with her lover. This is about sex and your emotions take over to raw passion. Enough said?

8. We Gotta Talk 4:07

This song has a cross mix of pop/Latin/hip hop. About a couple with problems and trying to work it out. Both have tried to their best, but communication is a must. She is constantly asking to come and talk things out to work them out. She gets to a point where it is almost like she is begging to talk.

9. That's Not Me 4:33

Fast pop song. She is giving up, following each song tells you a story, from falling in love, feeling the love, having the love, making love, trying to get him back but he won’t talk. Now she is telling him how she can’t do this anymore because it is just no her. She refuses to beg and cannot stand the way he is treating her and telling him I cannot do this anymore. She changed all she can and cannot give anymore.

10. Dance With Me 3:54

Pop/Dance mix. Don’t worry all the time let it go quit worrying all the time. Just grab a friend and go dance the night away. Leave your problems at home.

11. Secretly 4:25

Ballad, secretly wanting a love, his smell his presence overwhelms her. She is hoping he wants her as much as she wants him. These are all thoughts that she is not acting on just wanting to be close and be with him.

12. I'm Gonna Be Alright 3:44

Dance/Latin flavor/ hip-hop. Talking about secrets about him controlling her. She is with a man who has another woman and swore she would never be with anyone like that. Then she did not think she could walk away but she has to walk away because she cannot share anymore. No love is that strong.

13. That's The Way 3:53

Hip/hop, synth, cannot really make out the type of music this is. I do not like this song very much. I don’t understand it. Too much background and not enough voice.

14. Dame (Touch Me) 4:25

Latin ballad, touch me, want me. Good dance tune.

15. Si Ya Se Acabo Benito 3:37

Fast Latin tune, contains a lot of traditional Latin flavor.
