Great Product, small, good resolution easy transfer of data

Recording Media - This is both Hard Drive (which they market as HD) and MicroSD. Don't be confused by the prominent product making of HD which many have come to know as High Definition. The top resolution is 720 X 480 and not HD.

Using Camcorder - From when you open the flip-out screen it is 10 seconds to start recording. This is really pretty fast because it takes about half that to aim the camera on the subject. The controls for record start/stop are positioned just right as are the zoom in/out controls. For recording these are the main controls and they are in good positions and easy to set.

Control Navigation - The LCD screen is nice and it is easy to navigate with the side "laser" vertical scroll bar. The benefit of the laser scroll bar is that your fingers don't smudge the LCD screen when toggling from one selection to another in the menus. There is a dedicated OK, Menu button and three soft keys. The menu headings, and selections are easy to understand which makes selecting the desired option easy.

Media and Data Transfer - I bought a 2GB MicroSD card ($12.00 on newegg.com) and usually record on it as the data transfer seem easier and doesn't use any of the camcorders batteries during the transfer. JVC Includes CyberLink PowerDirector Express software to import data from the camcorder or the MicroSD card. The native .mod can be converted to an .avi or .mpeg file in a few easy steps. Sure it would be nice if the native file format was either .avi or .mpg but that's not common for this market segment. Once converted to either format it can then be imported to Windows Movie Maker and then re-converted to many formats if desired.

Included Cables - The included cables are all you need which is nice. There is a cable which converts a min jack to standard RCA jacks for video left and right audio. There is also a USB cable for data transfer and an A/C Cable to charge the camcorder.

I've been using this camcorder for about a month and have been using it for family videos indoors and mostly 2-15 minute clips.

Color - For what it's worth I bought the silver version of this which I could not find on Epinions so I'm writing the review on the Ruby Red.
