Think twice about this one
Date of Review: May 20, 2007
The Bottom Line: I don't recommend it because of the skipping problems I had. The other problems I could live with.
I don't know how it will be from unit to unit, but I just bought one of these, and I'm not impressed. I don't have an HDMI input on my TV, so I'm using component. The biggest problem I'm having is it skips. CDs and DVDs alike. I tried a DVD I had burned a couple of copies of (DVD+R) and it locked up about 1 min. into it and froze. I thought it was stuck, but after several minutes, it started playing again, but at the next chapter. I tried my other copy, with similar results in similar places. I'll be the first to say that under those circumstances it's probably the discs fault, but I then tried my discs in my old player, and they played just fine. I think burned discs can play reliably, but they need a good DVD player to do so. Several CDs have muted, and skipped ahead too (and these are store bought). When I tried the 1080i upconversion with a DVD of a TV show (4:3) it was displayed in letterbox with everybody squished down. I had to select 480p to get the correct aspect ratio, and I had set it up properly in the menu. Needless to say, I'm bringing it back later.
