It seems like something out of a dream. The JBL PB12 is a true piece of art. When I heard it, I said "wow". I saw the price tag of $400, and thought that it was a fairly good deal, but when I saw it for as low as $254.99, I was simply taken by surprise. Well, I tried this sub out a few times after it had already broken in, and here's what I found with it:
Price:
Don't pay the $400 retail for it. You can easily find it for as little as $255. Even for $400, it's worth it! But for $255, the JBL PB12 is simply a steal. The quality bass that the PB12 gives will simply amaze you. It will make you very happy. Also the whole 250 Watt load will pound your house! So search for the PB12 online, and buy it for around $260. You won't regret it!
Looks and Styling:
The JBL PB12 is big, and does look pretty cool. It's black, and it has the JBL logo nicely put onto it. It will look very nice in your home theater system. I've seen some gorgeous subwoofers, and I've seen ugly ones. The JBL PB12 is right in the middle.
Durability:
JBL speakers are known for their high build quality. The JBL PB12 is obviously no exception. The cabinet has a very solid design, and the woofer is also pretty good. The backpanel isn't cheap at all. I've seen very cheap backpanels on some subwoofers, but the ones on these JBLs aren't low quality. Overall, the JBL PB12 should last you! It's the JBL quality that you'd expect. JBL truly lives up to their name.
Sound:
All I can say is "wow!". The JBL PB12 really pounds. For only $254.99, you sure are getting a lot! At the heart of the JBL PB12 lies a powerful high current 250 Watt amplifier. The JBL PB12 also has a 12" driver that drives all the bass. 250 Watts alongside a 12" woofer gives you a whole lot of bass! Also compared to other subwoofers, the JBL PB12 hits more notes. The most comparable subwoofer at Best Buy for example is the Cerwin-Vega! LW-12! Both subwoofers are excellent. But the JBL PB12 has a cross-over frequency of 25Hz to 150Hz while the Cerwin-Vega! has a cross-over of only 30Hz to 120Hz. The bass that the JBL PB12 gives is very clean and powerful. It integrates perfectly into your music. By far, this gives the best bass in its class. It also threatens more expensive subwoofers! Believe me, you'll love its sound!
Ease of Use:
Like most subwoofers, the JBL is easy to use. The backpanel isn't anything that's truly spectacular. You can take care of everything there with no problems. Plus, you can always look at the instruction manual.
The Verdict:
The JBL PB12 is truly a work of art. It gives you amazing bass and power for a truly low price. This is what you should expect from JBL. This is what JBL is about! Quality sound at a truly nice price. Check out the PB12, it's one rockin' sub! For only $254.99, you are getting a lot more than you'd expect.
