Product Review

Not Too Shabby!

by   joeboxerr ,   Jan 31, 2002

Pros:  Very Good Quality for a bookshelf speaker

Cons:  Bass could be tighter, case could use improvement

The Bottom Line:  This speaker comes at a decent price, reproduces music well, and comes in a small package.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

I heard these at Best Buy, and compared them to a set of Bose and Yamaha Bookshelf speakers. The JBL's sounded the best (although not that great in the HUGE store environment).

I wasn't very pleased with the black plastic housing, as I'm used to a pair of Infinity 6" bookshelves with a black wooden housing. But since the price was decent I wasn't really concerned about that. The case design looks great....from the front. I don't really like the curvy profile, but the sound quality makes up for it.

These were meant to be able to handle 100w maximum each, and I'm running 50w to each speaker. The imaging is incredible with these. The highs are exceptionally clear, and the mids well defined. The bass is deep and rich, and I've yet to be able to hear any distortion (then again I'm only running 50 watts to them). As with all ported enclosures, the bass could be a little bit tighter. I listen to rock music, and the kick drum can sound a little thin while the bass guitars can sound a little boomy, but it's only noticable if you listen hard for it. Overall it's a very decent speaker for the price and size, and the sound quality is very good.
