The Bottom Line: Buy These!
I bought a pair of the JBL L830 speakers to use in a home office/den, and I could not be more pleased with their performance. Generally, I think that bookshelf speakers work best in a supporting role in a larger system such as a home theater with a subwoofer. However, these speakers can stand alone and deliver enough sound to fill a small to medium room.
WHAT YOU GET:
The speakers arrive from JBL and are very well packaged to avoid damage during transport. The package includes your new speakers, grills, instructions, and some adhesive cushions for the bottom of the speakers. The fit and finish on the speakers is very nice, and they make a nice addition to my room. I chose the cherry finish.
WHAT YOU HEAR:
You hear exactly what the recording artist intended you to hear. I am impressed with the wonderful sound reproduction of the JBL L830 bookshelf speakers. I have them placed at approximately seated ear level in the corners of the room. They are being driven by a Harman Kardon AVR 340, and they are the only speakers in the system. I have thrown everything (rock, country, soul, R&B, classic, jazz, blues, etc.) in my collection at them and they performed flawlessly in each case. The JBL L830's produce rich, deep bass.....much more than you would think possible from a speaker this size. The voice reproduction is so real that when you close your eyes you may believe that the performer is in the room with you. Mid tones are full and natural, and the highs are crisp without being harsh. The sonic detail is just amazing. You will hear things that you may have never heard before in your music.
Overall, I can find nothing about these speakers that I do not like. For sure, they are the best bookshelf speakers that I have ever heard. Just make sure that you shop around a little because the MSRP can be a little tough on the pocketbook.
