Product Review

OK performance, but there are better powered subs on the market.

by   mojomercy ,   Jul 23, 2003

Pros:  Decent bass output, remote level controller.

Cons:  Limited mounting choices, There are better powered subs on the market.

The Bottom Line:  Unless you can find a good deal, there are better powered subs available. JBL needs to go back to the drawing board on this model.

Overall Rating: 2/5 stars

Author's Review

I bought this for a good deal on E-bay, JBL yanked the auction right after I won it. It first I was very disappointed at the subs performance. With the remote settings on max I could barely even hear the sub. After using the sub for a week, the amp has burned in and performance has improved - but is still not great.

Granted its a all-in-one powered sub, if your looking for real thumping buy a separate sub-box and amp. But I was expecting better things from JBL with their home theater reputation. I think JBL has gone in the same direction as Rockford Fosgate, releasing only adequate products but relying on a past reputation for performance/quality.

The square design fitted my application well, but there are no provisions for mounting the sub on its side. I had to buy metal brackets and retrofit new mounts. A real pain. On the plus side, the remote controller works well and was easy to install.

In short this product falls short, especially for the $250 retail. A self powered Bazooka or Infinity Basslink offers more bang for the buck.
