great fun heist movie

I haven’t seen a lot of heist movies but I’m glad I could see the Italian job. There have been some heist movies that I enjoy but I think this is one of my favorite overall heist movies.

Plot
A gang of thieves made up of John Bridger, (Donald Sutherland) Charlie Crocker, (Mark Wahlberg) Handsome Rob, ( Jason Stahman) Lyle, (Seth Green) Left Ear, (Mos Def) and Steve (Edward Norton). Each member has a job John Bridger is the leader, Charlie Crocker is the master planner, Handsome Rob is the getaway driver, Lyle is the computer genius, Left Ear is the explosive expert, and Steve breaks into the places. The gang has just robbed over thirty two million dollars of gold bricks thanks to the planning of Charlie Crocker. They get away and hide in the mountains for a few days. When they leave they see a van with guys Steve hired to stop them. Steve takes the gold and shoots John Bridger leaving the rest of them for dead.

One year later the rest of the gang make it out alive and want revenge. Charlie Crocker goes to Stella Bridger (Charlize Theron) who is a legal safe cracker. Since the gang has no real safe cracker and know that Stella may also want revenge they ask her. At first she does not want to but she eventually agrees. The gang sees that Steve has changed his name and is living in L.A. they plan out a heist to rob Steve.

Acting
The acting is very good in this movie as the actors are very good in their parts. Edward Norton does a great job as he plays a sleazy traitor who kills several people. Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron do equally great jobs in their roles as they are very emotional and do a very convincing job. The rest of the supporting actors do a great job as thieves who all have their own personality. The short performance by Donald Sutherland was very good and believable.

Thoughts
This is a smart slick heist movie that is a whole lot of fun to watch. It has many memorable scenes and has some of the coolest car and boat scenes in recent cinema. After the release of this movie Mini Coopers became more popular since most of the car chases involved Mini Coopers. The plot of this movie was very well done and worked great. This is a remake of the 1969 original staring Michael Caine. I have not seen the original but my dad has said it is very good. The heists that occurred throughout the movie were very well done and were very believable. This movie has perfect running time where it is not too slow but it does not feel rushed. There were also no major flaws that I could see so that makes this movie all the better.

Overall
I love this move and always enjoy watching it. I saw this in the theaters and thought it was great so I bought it. This movie is very fun to watch and I would recommend this if you like heist movies in general I’m sure you would enjoy this. Even if you don’t like heist movies I’m sure you could enjoy this.
