Author's Review

I bought this external CDRW drive to use with my Compaq Presario Laptop. Once I figured out that I could only burn a CD at 2X speed with it, it has given me no problems.

I have found out with other USB devices and a USB hub that USB can be tricky and doesn't always do what you want the 1st time.

The unit is suppose to be able to write at 4X. I think my latop is really the problem, not the iomega so I've kept it because it's my only option to burn CD's with.

Speed times that you see on CDR's and CDRW's mean:

1X is the same speed as a music CD playing, so writing 700mb of data or 80 minutes of music at 1X will take 80 minutes.

2X means double speed, so 80 mins of music would take 40 mins to burn.

Every multiple equals that much less burning time.

For me saving 20 minutes on 40 is no big deal. I just sit back and watch TV. When you are burning CD's you really can not multi task on your computer. A new 1.5 Ghz Compaq a friend of mine just bought even says to not multi task when he burns CD's.

Thats all I got on this unit and CD burning. I hope you found it helpful.
