Product Review

Invicta Pro Diver Dial Automatic Steel men Watch for Men Model 8926

by   GaryD ,   Mar 26, 2009

Pros:  Extremely affordable, stylish, suited for dressier occassions, weighty, solid, looks expensive.

Cons:  None at present

The Bottom Line:  Nice solid everyday watch that will take what you dish out and then some. But don't go out of your way to destroy it!

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

SPRING FORWARD WITH TWO WATCHES

The Invicta 7164 is a solid watch weighting in at 6.9 ounces so you definitely feel it on your wrist and it will be seen. I original choose this time piece to be my everyday watch but upon continued view of ShopNBC's Invita watch spectacular I saw another watch of interest. It was the Invicta Pro Diver Dial Automatic Steel men Watch for Men Model 8926. Basically the two watches are the same and very similar in styling. However the Invicta Pro Diver Dial Automatic Steel men Watch for Men Model 8926 is slightly smaller and weighs in at 5.2 ounces of solid surgical stainless steel.

Since I can't decide right off which one of the Invicta watches I like best I'm wearing them both . . . one on each wrist . . . at present both of the automatic watches are in sync with each other time wise and date. Their accuracy for the couple of weeks I have been wearing them has equaled the atomic clocks in the household. Of course I'm not measuring time down to the millisecond though I believe they would hold their own. For the pricing of these two watches you cannot beat the quality, the expensive look, or their precision time keeping.

Without further ado I'll detail the features of the Invicta Pro Diver Dial Automatic Steel men Watch for Men Model 8926.

PRIME TIME WAS BUY TIME

The Invicta Pro Diver Dial Automatic Steel men Watch for Men Model 8926 available with a black dial, appeared visually to be an expensive looking watch. The Invicta name was not one of familiarity as I mentioned in my previous review with the Invicta model 7164. Though I had ordered the Invicta model 7164 I didn't hesitate to move forward with my purchase of the Invicta Pro Diver Dial Automatic Steel men Watch for Men Model 8926. It looked nice on screen and I was praying it would be even nicer in person. I'm happy to announce that both are exceptionally beautiful watches.

Neither branded Invicta displays Swiss Made anywhere on the watches themselves. However, the host of ShopNBC clearly touted they were Swiss Made. Likely it's due to the Japan Movement inside each watch.

Invicta Pro Diver Dial Automatic Steel men Watch for Men Model 8926 meet several criteria I was searching for in a watch: stylish, sporty, elegant, a date calendar, second hand, automatic, see through back, diver function, plus tritnite luminous hands. The styling of Invicta Pro Diver Dial Automatic Steel men Watch for Men Model 8926 leans more toward a dresser look that would glide easily underneath a cuff.

THE ARRIVAL OF SUBSTANCE AND QUALITY

1]  When my order arrived via the United Parcel Service priority mail I could not wait to see my new acquisition. Concurrently I was praying I would not be disappointed with my watch purchase. After removing the mailing box and material I was presented with a mat yellow box this time instead of the rich matte black box associated with the signature and reserve line of watches.

Lifting the top off, the front of the box opened down toward the table. Off white tissue paper imprinted with the Invicata logo lightly surrounded the yellow wave plastic and leatherette watch box. The presentation was very nice but opening the actual watch box revealed my real delight.

2]  After the plastic had been removed from the watch protecting it from scratches, tarnishing my eyes gleam and dazzle with shear happiness. The Invicta pro diver has a substantial feel, weight, and quality to it. The diver timing dial is unidirectional and turns smoothly with larger markers and numerals graduating by ten until returning to the dot marking zero. The diver dial has a much lower profile and fits almost seamlessly to the watches chassis.

3]  The Sapphire coated mineral with a magnifier at the 3 O’clock position are both sparkling clear and thick. It appears to me that it will withstand a great deal of everyday wear.

4]  Minute hands on the Invicta 8926 are large and easy to see . . .  touched with tritnite. The shorter minute hand encompasses the peace symbol reminiscent of the 60' era. The second hand is designed with a circle near its tip and the Invicta logo at the other end of the second hand. Tritnite is a phosphorous compound when exposed to light will gather the sun’s energy then release it in the darkness so time is still distinguishable. It's been my experience that this glow is short lived but in all fairness it may need to be exposed extended light exposure then I have offered it.

5]  A true black solid surface forms the dial face. Very clean sophisticated appearance.

6]  On the dial are silver tone markers where numerals would normally be placed with the exception of the 3 O’clock position. For the 6 and 9 O'clock sets bar markers and 1,2,4,5,7,8,10,11 are marked with circle dots, and the 12 O'clock hour marker is an inverted triangle. Certain lighting conditions make these markers sparkle like diamonds even with their tritnite coating.

7]  The date is located at the 3 O’clock position beneath the magnifier on the watch’s crystal. Just the date is revealed in this area . . . no labels of actual day names provided on this particular model. The Invicta Pro Diver Dial Automatic Steel men Watch for Men Model 8926 date window is not silver toned framed like on the Invicta 7164 to pronounce its visual appearance.

8] One of the signs to a quality watch can be seen instantly visually by watching the second rotate. The more smoothly it cycles around the dial the better quality of works are inserted into the actual watch. Invicta’s 8926 second hand presents very little jitteriness as it moves around. It does not move around with a start stop click rotation but revolves almost fluid.

THE MOVEMENT (Identical to the Invicta 7164)

I spoke with a few jewelers over the years regarding automatic moments and they all concur for the most part. There are basically two companies that fabric automatic movements one is Swiss and the other Japanese. Both manufactures produce high quality automatic movements though there are still individuals quarrelling over which is better and most actuate.

If time accuracy to the millisecond was important to me I would likely join in on this debate. At present I don’t need such accuracy, as long as the watch doesn’t lose more than a minute or two a year I’ll be content.

This watch being reviewed here possesses a Mivota automatic 21-jewel movement manufactured by Citizen (a Japan Company). The number of jewels in the movement is a good indication to the quality of the watch. More jewels mean better quality and accuracy – but jewelers have told me that anything over 25 jewels is overkill and don’t add to the function of a watch substantially if any. With 21-jewels this Invicta 8926 is at the higher end of quality movements.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND ADJUSTMENTS

An automatic watch should be manually wound at least every two weeks to maintain proper function and time accuracy. Don’t worry about over winding because your watch will not permit the mainspring to be over wound. The winding will only take you a minute or two and you’re good to go.

The Invicta 8926 Pro Diver is solid surgical stainless steel as well are the attractive modern bracelet. The bracelet is very modernly stylish with its outer side links brushed and the center links a high polish. It comes with ample links to fit a 8.5 inch wrist which can be sized down by Invicta, a jeweler or you Do-It-Yourself. The bracelet will size to about 7 to 7.5 inches. This model has push pins holding the links in place thought they look like small screws. On the back of the bracelet you will notice an arrow on the links pointing in the direction pins should be removed. The pins are snug and require a little force to pop them out.

The double locking clasp is probably one of the best features to this watch. It looks nice and feels secure and I won’t have to worry about it opening up unexpectedly as some models of other brands have done in the past. The Invicta logo is engraved on the first locking mechanism along with the company name.

For your watch to be water proof always be sure that the crown is properly screwed down. If the crown is not screwed down it cannot prevent water from entering the watch. Once the crown is locked down I have had no issue of it unwinding on its own.

I’m not a diver and the closest this watch will come to seeing a great deal of water will be while showering, hot tub or washing my hands. At least I will have the comfort of knowing these small task will not hamper the watch. The sole purpose of this watch is to utilize on a daily bases day and night. This watch has a good weight and you know it’s on your wrist.

Yeah I said this about the Invicta 7164 and it's true. I have both watches on as I write this review. I haven't been a two watch wear since college and that was because I moved between two time zones then. (To lazy to reset the time.)  I met a great deal of people like that too — always a curious mind pondering the two watches.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND

First impressions are indeed the most important
: This is a fine high quality watch surely to endure years of extended everyday wear that will withstand the rough adventures of daily use with little to no interference from the wearer. Invicta includes a microfiber cleaning cloth to wipe away fingerprints and light dirt (this one was yellow complimenting the box. I don’t see any major maintenance for this timepiece required unless you are rougher then I and a stop by a jeweler once a year for a brief examination would cause no harm.

The watch is sporty, stylish, elegant and a wonderful conversation piece. Invicta Pro Diver Dial Automatic Steel men Watch for Men Model 8926 is much more dressier and styles well with a sports jacket. Thus far it functions nicely, was extremely affordable and may be a generational timepiece that descents could enjoy also.

On the chassis’s left side you will find the Invicta name engraved. I would have expected this with their signature or reserve line but taken slightly aback that such an inexpensive watch possessed and expensive engraving (when looking from a manufacturing point of view in terms of cost of fabrication.) Don't be surprised if someone queries to view your Rolex. People do mistake the Invicta's for the higher end brand.

I’ve had this watch a short period the information has been presented as such. Once I have  owned it for several months I’ll follow up with how the timepiece is holding its own.

As for the company Invicta – I have not had an opportunity or need to contact them so I have no clue as to how their customer care will be – the 5 year warranty was a big selling point with me and I hope their company will honor it should I need to use in down the road. To offer a 5 year warranty implies quality and service. Time will tell!

I do seem to be having difficulty accessing the Invicta's registration web site. I may end up having to register via snail mail to secure my additional four years of warranty.
