Author's Review
Anyone who has attempted to learn another language is familiar with the standard memorization techniques that seem to never work. You're constantly having to re-visit previously studied words in an effort to keep what you learned. All too often, words from previous chapters are easily forgotten and you feel as if you're going nowhere. The Rosetta Stone language learning software uses a completely different technique. One that is much more effective.
Rosetta Stone does not require you to memorize words and their English translations. Instead, their program uses a simple technique of picture/word association. You learn the language just as you learned English as a child. You see an object, and you hear a word. There is no need for direct translations because you recognize the objects in the picture and understand the word's meaning. It's so effective, you will be surprised how quickly you begin picking up words of another language.
How about the problem of memorization or forgetting past studied words? This isn't a problem with the Rosetta Stone software. The first lesson starts to give you a foundation to build your foreign language vocabulary, and each subsequent lesson uses that foundation to teach you new words. You won't have to go back to lesson 1 because all of the words used in that lesson are being used in lesson 2 along with new words or phrases. It completely amazed me how fast I began to build up a vocabulary of foreign words and easily I retained that knowledge.
Before Rosetta Stone, I had tried everything from tapes, books for dummies, and other language software programs and was not successful. After trying a free demo of the Rosetta Stone software, I decided to give it a try. I loved it. It was so effective, it captured the interest of friends and family who would casually walk by while I was using the software. Before I knew it, there were about four or five of us gathered around the computer with everybody blurting out the word for the picture!
There are only two draw backs that I feel I need to mention. First, Rosetta Stone is expensive. The first volume is over $200. That's quite a bit more expensive than other programs out there, but it's worth it. If that is too much to spend at one time, you can do what I did and sign up for Rosetta Stone online. You gain full access to all volumes available for the language of your choice and can access the program from any computer that has internet capability. I can study at home, at work during my lunch hour, or over at a relatives house over the holiday. The monthly subscription cost is about $50 per month. For me, that fit my budget much better than one $200 hit. The second draw back is grammatical structure. Although you do begin to learn basic grammar for your new language, I found that I needed a grammatical supplement to help create the sentences that I wanted to. The fact that I've even gotten to the point of try to create more difficult sentences speaks volumes for what this software accomplished for me where others failed.
I highly recommend you at least try the free demo on the Rosetta Stone website. I think you will be pleasantly surprised!
