As this movie unfolds, we are asked to look at our beliefs, our own "instincts."
Excellently written, directed and acted.
Donald Sutherland both teacher and mentor of Cuba Gooding Jr., relies upon Gooding to evaluate a former colleague, Anthony Hopkins. A man that has been in the wild for two years and then imprisoned, for a violent act.
Watching Gooding evolve from a very career minded individual to a caring and apt student of his own patient, was very well done. It was extremely easy to move into these characters and feel the emotions with them. It isn't as easy to do that with movies, as it is with a good book.
And, watching Hopkins learn to trust again from his own psychiatrist, Gooding was acted out very well. Not predictable in the least.
Overall....excellent flick.
