Good film...bad toupee

Date of Review:  Jun 15, 2002
The Bottom Line: Insomnia is a better than average Hollywood film worth seeing in the theater for the Alaskan views. The storyline is above average but is a bit predictable.
Review: The remake of the Norwegian Film, Insomnia, is a thriller without any major plot twists. The film?s solid cast, Pacino, Williams and Swank, do justice to a recycled thriller where good guy and bad guy are both good and evil in their own way. They...

Insomnia: Early Oscar Candidate?

Date of Review:  May 28, 2002
The Bottom Line: Insomnia is a must-see movie; Pacino and Williams will most likely be up for Oscars at the end of the year. Do not miss this movie!
Review: Wow, wow, and wow. Three words I could easily use to describe Insomnia. An American remake of a Norwegian movie, Insomnia chronicles LA detective Will Dormer (Al Pacino) and his investigation of a young girl's murder in Nightmute, Alaska, where the...

Sleep is good for you...Insomnia.

Date of Review:  Jun 7, 2003
The Bottom Line: Great performances and a semi-thrilling storyline, until the end.
Review: I can't say that this particular review is going to be a very memorable experience at the theater for me. But this was not because of the movie, but because I originally first saw Insomnia in the theater, with a now ex-boyfriend. Yuck! It's a good...

Stark, dark, bright & brilliant, Insomnia will keep you awake.

Date of Review:  May 24, 2002
The Bottom Line: One of the most satisfying crime thrillers in years. See it. And then give the original a rent. It's only fair.
Review: John Carpenter knew it when directing his 1982 classic The Thing. Filmmakers extraordinaire Joel & Ethan Coen also knew it when they were putting together their phenomenal Fargo. If you're trying to create an insular, sterile and unsettling world...

Excellent movie

Date of Review:  Jun 21, 2002
The Bottom Line: I would recommend going to see this film; however, if you're interested in a romance, comedy, or just a purely escape movie this is not a movie for you.
Review: When I went into the theatre to watch this film I hadn't seen any previews of it, or heard anything about it, and it was definitely a pleasant (scary) surprise. I was expecting a boring film, and found an exciting psychological thriller. Al Pacino...

Date of Review:  Nov 7, 2002
The Bottom Line: Overall, a decent film. It is worth a rental.
Review: I waited a long time to see Christopher Nolan's Insomnia. I had wanted to see it over the summer but I just never found the time. Finally I was able to see it last night at a friend's house. I had heard mixed reviews about it prior to seeing so...

Pacino is sleepless in Alaska

Date of Review:  Jan 1, 2003
The Bottom Line: Whether you loved the original film or not, everyone needs to check out the 2002 remake by Christopher Nolan (MEMENTO). It's one of the best thrillers of the year!
Review: Anyone who's seen Christopher Nolan's work in independent cinema, knows how talented a filmmaker he is. "Following", Nolan's first full-length feature, was shot in London over a period of one year (finished in 1998) using 16mm black and white film...

The Great Dark North

Date of Review:  May 28, 2002
The Bottom Line: This is a must see for film noir buffs. While not as intense as Silence of the Lambs or SEVEN, it's a good addition to the canon of psycho-thrillers.
Review: I caught "Insomnia" this past Friday afternoon. Very good movie. Stars Al Pacino and Robin Williams. I caught an interview with Williams a month or so ago when "Death to Smoochy" was released. The interviewer asked him why he was doing such a dark...

The Failure of Success

Date of Review:  Jun 6, 2002
The Bottom Line: Rent the original.
Review: There appears to be something in the American psyche that causes it to recoil from foreign cinema. With those few exceptions?mostly British films with familiar faces, and the occasional action-oriented Oriental?America does not care for films...

Date of Review:  May 26, 2002
The Bottom Line: If you hate yourself and life and enjoy seeing movies that show people hating themselves and life... well, go for it, dude!
Review: Until this movie, I have never walked out of a theater before the film was over. I sat through Eyes Wide Shut. I sat through that first Austin Powers film. Other movies that I've endured include Planet of the Apes, Evolution, and The Royal...
