I like this player. I ordered from Wal-Mart.com for $298. It is easy to operate. I was most worried about the picture quality considering the price. I need a bigger screen but I wanted a reasonable price too. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the picture.
I have tried three different types of movies so far. Baby Einstein, Finding Nemo and Spiderman. I noticed that there was pixelating when there is a mass of one color that moved across the screen due to a slow refresh rate. There was a slight halo around fish that were in a open area in Nemo. The faces in Spiderman were a little on the red side, but I haven't had time to play with all of the features yet to see if I could adjust it. I was looking for such defects, but my children won't notice such things. I won't send it back for these slight imperfections.
I did notice that I could watch all three movies from a variety of viewing angles and the picture was clear. Another plus in my book.
The headphones were another surprise. I expected some cheesy ones, but they were actually better than I expected. However, the sound without the headphones is slightly tinny.
BTW, I got a package deal from WalMart that came with headphones, a car jack, and a bag. The bag is just a carrying case. It is not for hanging in the car. As of 4/14/2005, the deal is still on the Wal-Mart website. Shipping was QUICK! Just type in DVD player and it showed up on the first screen for me.
It operates by battery, plug-in and car jack (came with the deal I got at Wal-Mart). I haven't had the player long enough to know how long the battery will last. I have used only the plug and car jack.
It plays multiple formats (DVD, CD, MP3, JPEG). It also comes with slots for photo memory sticks to view pictures on the 10.2" screen. Much better than the tiny one that is in your camera. Great to use while on vacation when memory space may be an issue. It comes with a remote and has parental lock capability. It also has a USB port.
The player case seems sturdy. The hinge isn't flimsy. The labels for the buttons are easy to see. I haven't used the remote yet, so I don't know the ease of operation for it.
If you are looking for a good quality player for not a lot of money, this is it!
