If You Can Find this Movie SEE IT!

by   ahussain176 ,  Jan 1, 2007
Pros: Montgomery Clift, Anne Baxter, plot, filming, suspense, very unique screenplay
Cons: A mostly forgotten film
The Bottom Line: The pairing of great actors (Montgomery Clift & Anne Baxter ) a great director (Hitchcock) = a GREAT MOVIE (I Confess).
Review: I Confess (1953) is one of the best films I have ever seen. I had to start the review by making that statement because this is just a forgotten gem that for whatever reason is never shown on television or elsewhere. Had it not been for DVDs it might ...

I Confess (1953)

by   BrianKoller ,  May 10, 2000
Pros: direction, cinematography, supporting characters
Cons: Anne Baxter, contrived ending
Review: "I Confess" is not one of Alfred Hitchcock's most popular films. The mood is grim, there's not a lot of action, there is a melodramatic love story, and the leading actor is the somnolent Montgomery Clift. In short, the film is not tailored to...

I confess, this is a good movie...

by   Mephy ,  May 24, 2000
Pros: Plot, drama....
Cons: scripting...
Review: This is not standard Hitchcock filming, but it is a gem. Not very many people have seen it, but the ones I have recommend this movie to, loved it. One such person has worked at a movie theatre for over 6 years and has seen a heckuva lot of flims! By the...

The Half-Full Monty: "I Confess" - It's Not One Of Hitchcock's Best

by   rkingfish ,  Jan 22, 2008
Pros: Hitchcock's ability to create suspense even in its absence. Québec locations; architecture.
Cons: Both Clift and Baxter miscast. Inferior screenplay fails on several levels. Tiomkin score just pitiful.
The Bottom Line: The "Master of Suspense" lays a cinematic soft-boiled egg, but merits absolution for future achievements.
Review: It’s easy to look back upon any successful Hollywood career spanning decades and ponder one’s lesser moments; be they of a personal or professional nature. The cyclical patterns of life to which we all yield make perfection impossible and ...

Nobody Expects the Sp- er, nevermind.

by   truckturner ,  Dec 13, 2003
Pros: Cast, cinematography, tension
Cons: Some dated elements related to confessionals, a modest film overall
The Bottom Line: Unfairly ignored, but I'm not sure if it's actually worthy of everyone's attention, either. Certainly decent, there's worse Hitchcock out there.
Review: Number 15 on the list of the 31 Hitchcock films I've seen so far, that makes this one somewhere in the middle, in between the enjoyable "The Lady Vanishes" and underrated "Topaz" . It's a long way from "Strangers on a Train" and ...

The Seal of Confession

by   stormlightning ,  Jul 12, 2002
Pros: A good story in general, as well as the famous style of Hitchcock's cinematography
Cons: The performance of Anne Baxter
The Bottom Line: For those who are really interested in Hitchcock's style of filmmaking and storytelling, this film has to be seen.
Review: The movie I Confess is first another Hitchcock film about betrayal friendship and confidence. In the first scene, we are shown a murder, and the shadow of the killer running away. This last one, Keller, feel the need to confess what he has done, so tell...
