Author's Review
I confess, I didn't get into My Chemical Romance until Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge was already released. Later on, I learned that was the band's second album and was lucky to receive the first album as a birthday gift. I spent my birthday in my room with my friend, listening to this entire album.
First off, you can tell the differences between the two albums and not just by sound. I don't want to say the album art was bad, but compared to Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge's album art, it could of been better. Then again, it was their first album. It definately sounded like a first album. I think the second album reflected how comfortable the band became with their instruments and took them to their limits. I don't get that hint from this album. The songs sound less like the emo, screamo pop/rock that we are currently use to hearing on the radio. The air of the album is much more...darker. I say this album is more goth and almost meanacing. However, there were one (or maybe two) extremely short tracks that made me wonder "Why even bother including them?"
Its not for people who solely love the pop-filled emo, screamo songs they play now. This album is far from that. However, if you a true My Chemical Romance fan or if you like a wide variety of music and could appreciate the goth air this album offers, I would recommend it.
