Author's Review
Well, LCD screens are becoming rather a fad these days, even though their resolution and screen size are poorly matched against the much cheaper CRT; but they do have two clear advantages: Overall Size and Refresh ....
The Pros:
O.k. the refresh is not quite the equivalent to a CRT, but it is much better for the eyes (especially for a person who wears glasses and needs to focus on small text for a long period). In general because an LCD is 60Hz progressive, compared to an 80Hz interlaced, it works out to be much better due to the progressive scan (i.e. roughly 120Hz interlaced). I can work much longer (as I must) with an LCD; with a CRT I become nauseous.
The IBM L200p is no exception, and provides a clear 20.1 inches of clear LCD quality (diagonal equivalent of a 21" CRT). The actual pixel response time is slower (than a CRT), but the L200p comes with a native resolution of 1600x1200 which is about the maximum detail I can manage for this screen size. It has both digital and analog inputs, and an easy switch between the two (in case you also have a laptop).
The size and clarity are excellent, and certainly after 6 months of use no dead pixels (which cannot be said for some of my colleagues less expensive screens). Menu settings are easy (although hardly necessary with digital input) to use ~ something which over the years of monitor development seems to be still hit and miss.
The Cons:
Well, it's a bit pricey, but not for a 20.1" with 1600x1200 resolution. An investment one might say.
It's also not that sexy, but we are talking details here.
Lastly, the inputs could be more accessible, but once you are plugged in, and due to the fact there are two sockets .. it's unlikely you will go near these again anyway.
