Clean air with the Hunter 30730 air cleaner
Date of Review: Mar 9, 2008
The Bottom Line: Great choice in a home air cleaner for medium size rooms
The Hunter (model 30730) is a nice choice for a home air purifier. The unit is quiet, has multiple fan settings, and ionizer button.
The tower design takes up very little floorspace, yet cleans a large volume of air. The appearance of the machine blends well with most room decors. The clean air atmosphere created by the unit really is noticeable and can be felt in as little as 1 hour.
The ionizer button electrically "charges" dust particles so the cling to the filter with ease. The unit cleans the air with or without the ionizer in the "on" position.
The main filter is a two stage combination with the main HEPA type filter in back and the charcoal black filter in front. The manual recommends changing the charcoal type filter every other month or so...however, we have used the same ourside filter for up to a year by regularly vacuuming the replaceable filter to keep it useful far beyond the factory recommended timeframe. The HEPA main filter should also be vacuumed on a regular basis to extend the useful life of the filter elements.
The unit is pretty much maintenance free and requires no special treatments other than keeping a watch on the condition of the filters.
A handy set of small lights alerts you when one of the filters needs a change(or cleaning).
The fan settings range from "super" to "quiet". Quiet setting is low enough to actually sleep. That's a very important factor in a bedroom air cleaner. when shopping air cleaners, turn them on in the store and then imagine the sound in a quiet room. Some machines are very LOUD....even on quiet settings.
It will clean a medium to large size room..however would be stretched to the limit on very large family room/kitchen combos...especially with high ceilings!Still...you would be able to tell a difference...just not as quickly.
Useful life of the unit? Ours is now three years old and performs like new. It's used year-round due to asthma and allergies. We have used other types, but the "storebrand" types tended to develop loud motors and other problems after the 2nd year.
The Hunter aircleaner unit lives up to its namesake's reputation!
