Help For Teething

My daughter was about 4 months old when she began teething and we had started using Baby Orajel Liquid. The Orajel worked pretty good however, she did not care for the taste of it. A coworker of my husband recommended Humphreys Teething Pellets as it had work well with her kids and it was a homeopathic treatment.

I had a hard time find the teething pellets and my husband's coworker found some and got it for us. My daughter was still in the midst of a teething session so we decided to give it a try that evening. She gave an original flavor supply although there are others ones available such as Very Cherry. There were 135 tables that are only slightly larger than the tip of a pen.

The directions recommend using 1-3 pellets and we decided to try with one. The instructions stated to dissolve the pellet in 1/2 teaspoon of water and to apply the mixture directly to the gums. It only took about 10 seconds for the pellets to dissolve with just a little bit of stirring. The instructions did not indicate what should be used to apply the mixture so we used a freshly cleaned finger. We used 4-5 applications from the small mixture of pellet water. The directions further stated that you can use the product again in 2 hours if needed but not to exceed more than 4 times a day. My daughter calmed down shortly thereafter and we did not need to reapply again for the remainder of the evening. Typically my daughter only need one application of a teething soother in the evening. My daughter did not appear to have a dislike for the taste of the Humphreys as she did the Orejel.

Although the Humpreys does not contain the chemical benzocaine (as with Orejel) it does contain sugar and coffee crude (coffee seed) which I was not too thrilled about it because she was so young. My daughter did not appear to be over stimulated by the Humpreys though.

Overall, I would say that the results from the Humphreys were equivalent to those from the Orejel for my daughter. The only improvement I saw between the two was that she seemed to prefer the flavor of the Humphreys. It was a little bit of a hassle to have to pull the pellets out and dissolve them in a small bowl but successful results were delivered.

I later located another flavor of Orajel that was made with chamomile. Chamomile is a major ingrediant in Humphreys so I was hoping that my daughter would like the flavored Orajel. She did not express any displeasure after trying the Orajel and we chose to stay with it.

Although we decided against using the Humphreys, I still believe that it is a good product and would recommend it. For us, it was more convenient to use the Orajel and it also soothed her discomfort. I would recommend that the parents of a teething baby should try both products to see which works the best as one product may work more effectively for another. The prices are equivalent for both products and they both will last for many uses.

As the Humphreys have 135 tables, it should last for 45-135 uses depending on how many pellets are used for each application. It only took 1 pellet to soothe my daughter.
