Ever since I saw an article on hardwood floors in House Beautiful, I have been an avid reader. The article encouraged people with hardwood floors to take a chance and get rid of the carpeting! I gleefully ripped up my boring carpets and before I knew it I had rented a sander and done the job myself! Wow, that was hard work. After I finished sanding them down I had to pick a stain that would accentuate the wood's natural characteristics. House beautiful helped me to determine that I had Northern Red Oak floors, and that a pecan finish would give me the desired cozy, red undertones I required. My floors look great! Thanks House Beautiful!

I am also still in college, in the interior design program, so i have a limited budget for home improvements. House Beautiful is very good about showing you how to cut monetary corners and do things on your own. Give it a try!
