Look great while using the MOST comfy baby sling...
Date of Review: Apr 6, 2008
The Bottom Line: I would HIGHLY recommend this baby sling to anyone that wants a great-looking, stylish carrier that is very comfy for mom and baby. Loved my Hotsling!
I got a Hotsling in Solstice print when my large baby number was already about 6 months old and over 22 lbs. Although, I didn't think I would really be into "babywearing", I was desperate to find something I could put him in and carry him in hands-free since I also had a 2.5 yr old son that I needed my hands free to guide him in stores or to preschool. I knew I had to try something out of necessity so even if I wasn't really that keen on the idea of wearing my baby I had to try something. I had bought another inexpensive mainstream carrier that KILLED my back and neck for several days after each time I used it. And the carseat infant carrier was now too heavy with my baby in it to use any longer. I did some online research and decided to give Hotslings a try.
I found an online work-at-home-mom site and ordered one. After receiving it, I called in and got some instruction as to how to use it (while practicing with a two-liter soda bottle). I still wasn't sure I would like it.
I went to a playdate outing where I knew some veteran "baby wearers" would be and had one of the moms show me how to properly wear the sling with my son in it. Voila!! It was perfect! And it was so comfy that I ended up wearing him in it the rest of the playdate without any back pain later on. This quickly became my most favorite and most used baby product. And my son loved it. He loved being in it, it was so comfy he could sleep in it, and there was almost NEVER a time when I didn't get stopped by people saying how comfy and happy he looked and how "neat" it was. I was actually very sad when I had to sell it. We aren't having more children and this had become something very special between my son and I. I still find myself looking at the new designs and coveting them even though I have no use for them anymore.
The things you need to know about a Hotsling:
*You MUST get the right size- See website for measurements. I am very small (100lbs) and with the right size Hotsling I comfortably carried my large 25lb baby.
*You can use it in several different ways to carry your newborn to 30lb baby. The website may say over 30lbs, but unless you are a big, strong person and plan to buy a bigger sling at that point to accommodate for the change in baby's size, I doubt you can use it longer than about 30lbs. I wore my son right up to about 14 months and 28lbs- he would actually bring it to me to put on he loved it so much. And if he was tired of riding in the buggy at the store, I could pull it out of my purse, put him in and he would usually fall asleep on my in the hip-carry position.
*It can fold up small enough to fit in your purse or diaper bag.
*It takes practice. Start with a big doll or soda bottle and get help if you need it. It can make ALL the difference.
This sling folds up small and is so convenient, SO awesome looking, so comfy, and just might become your favorite baby item too!
