Cheap price and product

The Bottom Line:  Don't buy - won't last
Though this refrigerator appeared to be a good deal at first, I would strongly recommend not to buy it. I've had it for four years now, and multiple problems after the first year. It started with the motor getting very loud, then the ice-maker wouldn't work any longer (it got fixed and then failed again a couple of times), now the freezer does not work properly, the ice-maker stopped working (again), and the fruit drawer is icy cold. The GE customer service department is not very customer friendly. Although the problems started and were serviced while the unit was still under warranty, I have been told that I am responsible for all payments as soon as the warranty expires, and previous repairs are not covered (although they were obviously not effective). To schedule your appointment over the phone (via a voice computer) or via their web-site is fairly easy. However, be prepared to be very patient if you wish to talk to a real person. GE's service is only offered within 4-hour blocks (either am or pm), which I find very inconvenient since I'm not working at home. So far, I had to take a total of six or seven half-days of vacation time, just to wait around for one of their technicians. Overall, I believe a refrigerator should last at least 10 years, and never had any issues with my previous units.
