Author's Review
As a child I remember my parents owning an 8 track tape of Hotel California by one of the greatest group of singers out there, The Eagles. Usually, I didn't care much for their taste in music but when I heard this tape, I just fell in love with it. I would listen to it over and over, and yes I even put up with that clicking sound when the tracks changed, but it was well worth it.
For some reason no matter how much I loved that tape, and love to hear the songs, I had not gotten the cd for myself until this past week. I had decided to join a music club and saw the cd listed and thought wow, I think I want that, so now I'm the proud owner of Hotel California by The Eagles. Okay so it took me 25 years to buy it but guess what it still is worth any penny that was spent on it.
One of the things I like about the Eagles is the fact that all of them can sing. How many groups do you see that mainly has one lead? Well not the Eagles, there is so much talent in one group it's simply amazing.
The first track on the cd is of course the title song to the cd, Hotel California. This song can be a little spooky when you think about checking into a hotel and not being able to check out anytime you want, but it is a great story in a song. I can remember sleeping with a radio on when I was younger, and waking up from a nightmare because of the song being on the radio. Well, of course I listened to it because no matter how much it spooked me, I loved the song and still do. Don Henley does a great job on the lead vocals on this song.
The second track on the cd is New Kid in Town. Glenn Frey does the lead vocals on this melody about a boy Johnny and the girl that he loves and the question of whether she will still love him when there is a new kid in town. This song is just a sweet one basically warning Johnny he better watch it or he may lose his girl to another guy, so he better say the things that he should to her.
The third track on the cd is Life in the Fast Lane with Don Henley once again on vocals. This song is about living in the fast lane and that keeping it up you may eventually lose your mind. A couple living in the fast lane eventually breaking down because they can't handle it any more. This song is a very upbeat song that will keep you on your toes.
The fourth track on the cd is Wasted Time which is also followed by a reprise on the fifth track. Don Henley sings the leads again on this slow song with the question of whether our time that we have here if we are wasting time. It really makes you think about whether you are living life to the fullest or are we wasting time. It's a great song to slow dance to also.
The sixth track on the cd is a more upbeat song called Victim of Love. Don Henley sings lead vocals on this song also. In this song he's talking to a girl who has gotten her heart broken by another man. The music to this song is one of those that you would be bopping your head to if you listen to it.
The seventh track on the cd is called Pretty Maids All In a Row. This song has Joe Walsh singing leads while playing the piano. It is another slow song that is great to slow dance to. It is talking about the dreams of women of living a fairy tale life but at one point the book does end.
The eighth track on the cd is called Try and Love Again. Randy Meisner sings lead vocals on this song. This song is basically talking about someone whose heart has been broken, and they are wondering would they win or lose if they try and love again. It's another very pretty song.
The last song on the cd is also the longest song lasting over 7 minutes. It's called The Last Resort and once again Don Henley sings the lead vocals on it. It's another slow song and is about the trials that some people have to go through. It's another great story song, and as long as it is, you would have to hear it to get the whole story of what is being said. To me it's a kind of an inspirational song.
If you love to hear great musicians and to listen to those oldies from the 70's, then this cd is definitely for you. As I said before, my parents and I deferred in most of our music types, and with them and my brothers and I enjoying this tape in the 70's and still enjoying it in 2001, it has to be an awesome cd that you would want to own. I'm sure glad I decided to buy it.
